hello everyone - long time listener first time caller. Anyone have any issue with the driver seat making creaking noises? At first I thought a water bottle was under it, but there is nothing there. Then I thought it was my rear Weathertec floor mat hitting the seat, but that was not it either. Cross off things shifting in all the driver side door pockets too. Any ideas?

So it’s making a crumpling plastic noise at all times? If it was mine I’d take it to the dealer if there’s no obvious sign of why it’s doing it. Could be something internal in the seat.

I mean when you shift around in the driver seat of any car it is going to make kind of like a grumbling noise.

thank you for the feedback. I cannot recreate the sound by rocking in the chair. The chair does seem to be a little loose as I can wobble it while standing outside of the truck. maybe that would be it?

Could be. Would def take it to the dealer. Sounds like there might be a bolt or something needing tightening.

My 2020 makes no noise that I’ve noticed, with about 9k miles on it. The rear seat on the driver side used to rub a bit against the cargo floor or maybe around the hinge for folding it down, but that’s disappeared.

I had a persistent annoying creak in a 2016 BMW driver seat. Was ultimately diagnosed as coming from the air bladder for the lumbar support. They put some felt or something around it and that did the trick.

I have a 2021 ORP and have that creaking sometimes. I moved seat fully back and it was ok for a while. I only have 70 miles on it. Due to other priorities have not had it looked at. If someone gets more info on this can you please share.

I been wondering about a noise of the like at the Drivers seat it is like a small clunk that I can hear and feel at the driver's seat I been looking all over securing everything I can took all the "loose objects out of the entire 2020 4Runner and it is still there I put it up on lift put a hand on everything looking to me it is more like something rolling and hitting the back of the seat lightly now it has me wondering if it is the same issue.

Found that blasted Noise under the seat.... After Looking everywhere around the Driver's seat attempting to find that bloody clunking noise and cussing out everything... we won't say what was said but.. I just happen to hear and feel it when I was pulling into my driveway and there it was under the front passenger's seat the little SOB looking out at me... Bright red and shinny! with a big ah hah! I grabbed it and wrenched it out from under the seat wondering how in the hell did it get in there in the first place? then it all came back clear.

A month ago I parked in a Super market parking lot and left the right rear window down a couple inches and when I came back out of the store I found a brand new unopened pack of cigarettes on the back seat (I don't Smoke) so I figured that someone dropped them walking by my 4Runner and another person picked em up and put them in my 4Runner thinking they were mine... well That is the same time the clunking noise started too so now I think they put both in and this little bugger has been rolling back and forth driving me Mad!

I have an appointment made with the local Toyota service center for next Wednesday. While on the phone, the lady was on the Google doing research and found other instances where there may be a rod that needs to be lubricated, but it sounds like the whole seat needs to come out for that. I will update after the appointment. Stay safe, Happy 4th.

    All of them.
I took both mine and my wife’s 20 and 21 in for this and they told me to wait until right before my warranty was up and showed me if I barely budge the seat forward just a hair the noise stopped. He mentioned the warranty thing because he said that way at 100,000 miles I get two brand new seats. I’m skeptical but if the noise comes back I’ll have them go ahead and replace them. But all my service papers have the mention of it on it so…

This is what they told me for my issue too. The fix was to move my seat up like 1 mm, and I haven't had any noise since.

    Cheers,

This might sound crazy but it doesn't do it when my wife drives, but when I do it "creaks". I think it might be weight related? I weight 230 lbs compared to her 130 lbs. I am guessing its tension throughout the seat - not exactly sure what piece it is, but that's the only thing I can think of because I have tried adjust the seat itself and took the seat out to see if there was anything broken underneath.

Did you move the entire seat or just the seat back? I thought I tried this but maybe I am crazy.

OMG! I thought it was just me! I just traded in my 2020 4runner SR5 for a 2023 4Runner Off Road Premium and the SAME thing is happening AGAIN on the 2023. A creaking, popping and/or plastic clicking noise when you accelerate, turn and/or brake! Not all of the time, but enough to make you notice and drive you crazy! I tried to replicate it on my 2020 when I was at the dealer and guess what? It decided NOT to make any noise so I was SOL. Again, thought it was specific to my 2020 until I upgraded to the 2023 and the SAME THING is happening prompting me to see that this annoying sound is NOT isolated

Somethings I have read...my seat is all the way down and back (as I am 6'5", 265 lbs.) and it seems this is common if you have the seat as far back and low to the floor.

There is has to be something better than just moving it up (which I do NOT wish to do). Comments?

Hi All my 4runner is at shop right now getting seat frame replaced. first had a bit of noise 9 like a loose mounting bolt when I would brake, or harder slow down then was able to pin it down to my moving in seat I could recreate it. sounded like loose seat mounting. Anyway when took it in for 5000 mile check told em and they said they found the seat frame was flexing from bad manufacture and they needed to replace the seat frame. Being a mechanic for 28 yrs I could understand that but asked them about this and what do you think they said? No never saw this problem but the seat frame if I had to buyit was almost $1500.oo of course knowing dealers and them not knowing I was a mechanic and managed a number of shops a s shop Forman, even as manager, but it was all mechanical, not body work. Figured ok they work on em and know em better than I do, So anyway scheduled me back and said it will be an hour to hour in half, took it there to my appt this morn and was there about an hour and 1/4 then the service writer came out to waiting room and said they can give me a ride and the repair will be another 3 to 4 hours !!! So they gave me a ride home, told wife no issue not mad just confused they know the flat rate time to replace the drivers seat frame transfer any mounted parts etc. So got on computer to see if I could find the estimated time. and came across this site. Thank you, found this is a common problem of frame flex on 4runner sr5's or 4 runners. So I will be back after I get our 4runner back and let everyone know how it turned out. Not angry just with back ground do not know how 1 to 1 1/2 hours goes to 5 to 6 hour job. I know the tech does need to have a lunch break also. But other than this Love our 4runner. Does great and is comfortable pulling our 24 ft Pontoon boat which is why we bought it mainly in addition to 4wd and easier for wife and I to get in and out of vs a sedan in our retirement years. Results to follow
