2021 Venture On Order

I live at 3,800' elevation in the remote Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway National Park. We get a lot of snow and ice here, so I need a 4x4, with off road snow tires and a lot of ground clearance. My current 2019 RAV4 AWD just wasn't up to the task, even with the Falken Adventure Tire upgrade, it still got stuck a lot last winter.

So we just purchased a 2021 Venture in Nautical Blue. Options: Sunroof and Dealer Installed Goodyear DuraTrac Tires.

Update: Our 2021 TRD Venture is due to be picked up at the dealership June 24th! Hopefully they will have upgraded the 5 tires to Goodyear DuraTacs, and just in time for July 4th weekend.

The Venture Model is extremely hard to find and from what I was told all custom builds were stopped last week, so the only inventory is what is inbound on ship from Japan, about 3-5 weeks out. Most dealers are pre-sold out as this model is also being discontinued. I called all over the place within 500 miles. I needed the Crawl feature which the Venture has for my 20° steep mountain driveway (photo: below) and severe snow rated tires.

Not sure if I'll keep the Venture roof rack basket. I might list it for sale when I pickup the vehicle.

I think that picture would tell the tale completely! Have to leave 1 hour early just to get the snow off your truck. Not to mention clearing out from behind or in front of the tires.

Have fun! The 4Runner is definitely the truck for you. Heck, even my 87 Runner has done me good for a long time here in S-Central Oregon. Not as much snow, generally, as you get, but heck, it can only take a small amount to make a road impassable for my 2WD pickup...

Dealer off the mountain just called and said my 2021 Venture Nautical Blue Metallic, will be arriving on the truck tonight for pickup tomorrow afternoon - I can't wait! The dealer still needs to install 5 Goodyear DuraTrac tires and do the standard dealer prep stuff. It left Japan on May 22, and I had been tracking the ship (New Century 2) until it docked in Jacksonville, FL.

I picked the Venture Model for the CRAWL Mode (which I actually use in the winter), the Blacked Out Badges, the Gun Metal TRD Wheels and the TRD Heated Seats. Not too crazy about the basket thing. It's also the only model not to have any badges on the rear or sides.

This was a dealer swap back in May, just before the factory stopped taking build orders. Two Toyota plants in Japan shut down due to chip shortages. This was from a small town Toyota Dealer, so I had to take whatever they could get, option wise - very slim pickins out there.

I paid $500 UNDER MSRP, plus the $750 wild savings promo, but I got a lot more for my very low mileage 2019 RAV4 Limited AWD trade in than I had expected, so it worked out pretty good in the end.

Of course SE Toyota had added a pile of overpriced dealer add ons, like $200 for internal LED light bulbs ($10 item), $80 for USB charger and cables ($10 item), $700 Step Bars, $700 plastic hood wrap, etc., included in the MSRP, but since this rig had not hit the port yet, I was able to cancel and remove all of them, except for the factory sunroof, which I still wanted. That dropped almost $1700 off the MSRP. The roof basket is part of the Venture Model, and not an add on, so that could not be removed. I might end up selling it.

I might be new to this Forum, but isn't my first 4Runner. Prior Toyota Old School Rigs: 1999 4Runner, 2008 FJ Cruiser, 2013 FJ Cruiser TT.

Some Improvements I'm looking forward to: Brighter LED Headlights, Sat Navigation for when the iPhone signal quits and Apple Car Play.
