Wilco vs Rigd tire carrier, wish I could say I bought a Detours!

So, I've basically given up on buying a Detours tire carrier, though I like it better than Wilco and Rigd. I'm too impatient and unforgiving of bad communication, especially since I won't support FaceBook. I'd love to skip the discussion completely and just buy a rear bumper/swingout, but the Victory Strike combo would set me back north of $2500 with shipping, which I just can't do. Which leaves me the choice of Wilco or Rigd. I'm looking for feedback from people who made the same decision recently. Which did you choose, and what swayed your decision? Any regrets or changes you would have made to your order? Are there any other carriers I should consider? I don't plan to load it up any time soon with traction boards, jerry cans, or even a highlift. Right now, I just want to move my spare from underneath the truck. I'm still hoping to find a used one, but am planning to buy new if that doesn't happen.

If you care to step away from pre-built stuff and consider DIY... A creative mind can mesh these two and create their own hitch mounted tire carrier. Just cut the 90 turn off the Curt carrier, drill a 5/8" ish hole in the bottom of it for a carriage bolt/locking pin to sit in the Fullwatt carrier, and boom you're set. Its not going to be some perfect thing of beauty, but it wont be $1200 either

The homebuilt one is in the running as well. I have some other projects that need to be completed, which is the reason I may go with one of the expensive ones.

This is a limited run, not sure if they are all accounted for. Best design I've seen to date.

I think the first ones are spoken for but I'll keep watch on that thread in case he does another run. That's a nice looking carrier! Thx for the link...

He said that was it. I talked to him quite a bit but I just wasn't sure what I wanted and didn't want to jump into something. Was hoping he was going to have one left when I was passing near his shop next month but they all ended up selling

So now my question is this: is a Rigd carrier worth the extra $$$ compared to Wilco? I don't plan to throw a lot on the carrier except maybe a HiLift. No Rotopax. I don't know that I'd actually use the Rigd tabletop much, except maybe as a fly tying station while fishing or parts shelf if something needs fixed. I do kinda like the swingaway second hitch for bike racks or whatever on the Wilco.

So a few things that the one in the link and these others you may want to consider in your process. 1) how tight do you want it to the back? The one CT made was a very close fit and wouldn't allow much as far as accessories to mount. The Rigd has room obviously but I am not sure how much the Wilco has. If you think there's the slightest chance of mounting anything up it's something to consider. 2) Do you have a ladder or intend on getting one? Another thing CT took in to consideration was the offset to allow for different ladder combos. My big thing was I couldn't decide if I wanted to commit to the close fit or "roomier" fit of the Rigd that allows for adding a shelf/rotopax etc. Pricing on the one off was about inline with the Rigd and to be fair, he designed a really nice piece and talking to him really helped me think about the route I wanted to go. Either way you decide, Rigd or Wilco,. you're still dropping a fair amount of coin

No ladder for me, but great points. I'll probably go with a Rigd - I'd rather have the space and not need it, than vice versa. I figured CT's would be in the Rigd price range - and it looked like it was worth the price.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
I was just checking out the Detours of Maine swing out tire carrier and saw his facebook post.
    Detours of Maine.jpg

Sounds like he's a one man shop that is getting swamped by emails.
At $685 for the Detours swing out tire carrier vs $1399 for the Rigd or $1100-$1600 for the Wilco, I'd be tempted to place an order with Detours and just wait the 12 weeks.

How much communication do you need over a product like this?

I just got my https://www.rigid-armor.com/ swing out in the other day. Great communication with them and shipped pretty quick.

I like the Rigd as well, but wasn’t trying to pay $1500 for a tire carrier.

Gotcha thanks. Powder coating can definitely increase cost and be another couple weeks to get done. My body armor slimline front bumper came with the shittiest powder coat job I've ever seen. Going to have to bandaid it until I can find time to have it redone or get a new bumper and swap out

Just saw these guys on YouTube. Basically a Jeep shop, but they will do custom orders. They claim two weeks shipping time and a $775 base price. Somewhat tempting, but like @DRobs wrote, I may just try to place an order for the Detours and wait it out. Still on the fence...

I have DOM and no complains except the wait. The 12 weeks is bs. More like 24 weeks. Btw a roto does fit behind the tire on DOM carrier. Just barely but it fits and he included the mount without me asking for it.

I have a rigd ultraswing (for sale) the welding is amazing and it's an extremely well built unit. My buddy who is a fabricator bought a rigid armor one because there was a 4th of July sale. The welds on his are pure shit garbage and in his words looks like a high school shop student built his. He knows the owner of rigid armor and tore him and new one and basically ripped it off his rig and built his own. His rigid armor one had his tire hit his rear tire when pulled open.

Yes rigd is a lot more than rigid but you totally get what you pay for.

Rigid armor used to have a very good welder but that guy left because the owner didn't want to pay him and the new welders suck ass

It would fit, airplane would be empty coming home, just that I am not on it. If our crew wasn't gone for the last 10 days I would see about them waiting and trying to arrange something with you but they will be anxious to get home, especially after the flight on monday
