How many keys can be programmed for 2021 4Runner?

Hey all! After less than two weeks of searching I was able to get the new 2021 4Runner I was looking for! I'd like to get at least two additional (4 total) key fobs.
So far, in my experience, dealers have not been able to answer any of my atypical questions about the 4Runner. They either give me the wrong answer or don't know.

Obviously I don't want to pay $450/ea for new keys. One of the dealers gave me a "wink wink" and said I could buy key insurance for $295 and "lose" one every year to get extras.

So, I bought the 4Runner & insurance. The dealer I bought it from couldn't tell me how the keys are copied. I've since googled it & learned that there may be a limit (as little as 3 keys on some Toyotas) to how many keys are programmed to the 4Runner.

So, can anyone answer how many keys can be programmed to a '21 4Runner? And would the dealer require deletion of the "lost" key to prevent the owner from doing the side step I'm trying to do to get extra keys for less money?

 

Not an official answer, but it’s your car. If you want 10 keys, you should be able to get 10 keys.

 

5 is the total amount of fobs you can have programmed at one with techstream.
