Hello everyone, very happy to be here. I just bought a 2002 with 186000 miles and the previous owner ran conventional oil from those crappy 10 minute oil change places. I drive about 3000 miles a month and want to switch to synthetic but a few mechanics have warned against it. Any thoughts? Do you guys run 10-30 or 5-30? Lastly what do you guys think of the Lucas additive? Thanks again in advance. Phil.

If you don't have any leaks or burning oil I wouldn't add lucas oil IMO. I switch to 5W30 Valvoline syn at 160K with no issues and I'm currently at 217K. I think you'll be ok.

Wow, thank you. Anyone else with an opinion? I'd like to do the switch tomorrow. Thanks again, Phil

I run synthetic in everything I own. Mobil 1 in motorcycles and cars. Motorcycles are all air cooled and run cooler with it.

I ran synthetic in my last three vehicles no troubles . there is a lot of benefits to it. the people you talk to probably did want you to do because there product cost goes up. and if you go with mobil1 extended profomance with a good filter you can go 10,000 between you oil change.
