Tinted/smoked headlights and taillights

Wondering if anyone has suggestions for tinted headlights and taillights for 2021 SR5-P? Can they be bought aftermarket? Not sure how I feel about the decals though would like to hear from anyone that’s done this.

 

They make spray tint that with the right prep looks very good. I’d be weary of Chinese aftermarket assemblies, unless you want to spend $600-$1200 for morimoto

 

Spend the money and get Morimoto or stay stock.

Illegal in CA and other states. Sucks to get a ticket for cosmetic item.

Yea I got away with having plastidipped oem taillights on my 2013 T4R but got a ticket for having tint on my BMW taillights. Gotta just get black housing after market lights or just stay stock. It was really stupid and dangerous plastidipping tail lights looking back at it.

Good thing there's still "free" men living in "free" states in this country.

 

Best aftermarket output. They other made in China brands aka Alpharex are not dot compliant and aren’t true lowbeams. More of a flood light.

 

Do you have this product? I’ve been reading up on them and saw a review from someone that indicated his normal interior light switches did not turn them on properly. Now that’s only one I read with that issue though I just want to do all my research before hand. Thanks

 

I don’t for the T4R yet but did for my Tacoma. I will be purchasing them for the runner at some point though. They have a great warranty as well.

 

Interesting thread as I try to make mine as bright as possible. I just got better leds for my reverse lights and some are plastidipping them
Looking to they try DD for turn signals with the module for turn as taillights as well.

 

Agree. Not trying to hurt the light output and realize now that I’m better off buying new housing in black.

 

Why do mine say SAE/DOT?

 

To me personally if tinting or darken lights reduce light output it's dumb because I love to drive in forest roads at night. It was a pain in the A when I had to reverse with stock halogens. I buy good LEDs for reverse lights now.

Needless to say I want the best light output with headlights as well. So for my use I'd never tint or use darker housing on headlights or tail lights.
I'd also not take chances if someone rear-end me and take darker tail lights as excuse and having to waste my time with insurance stuff.

(I do have rear end experience and the person at fault try to bring an "imaginary" another vehicle that rear ended. Luckily I got proof that there was no 3rd vehicle. People will look for any opportunity to put the fault on you. I don't care darker housing are dot complient or not, no for me.)

Note- This is only my take on it and not saying anyone not to do it.

 

That is crazy dark. I'm in the brighter-is-better camp for front and rear. How long did they give you to fix your BMW taillights?

It's mind blowing how expensive some of the aftermarket dark housing lights are.

 

I honestly don’t remember. It’s just the same as our stupid front window tint fix it tickets.

 

Oh then maybe they are. They just don’t have the same output as oem. They are the same lights you can get off Ali express. There’s a side by side floating around Tacoma World of morimoto, alpharex, and oem and the alpharex low beams are by far the worst. I wouldn’t want to use them or put my family in danger for driving at night just for the look.

 

I've personally run OEM halogens, OEM with HID's, OEM with LED's, and Alpharex Luxx. I disagree with you. I've had them for a while and my family is still very much alive.

Just sayin, Alpharex are subpar Chinese crap. It isn’t a legitimate headlight at all, it is a short range flood light, which is not what you want in a headlight. You want distance light, not short range foreground light. And those are the Gen1 Morimotos on the right, the Gen2s are significantly brighter.You get what you pay for…
