Matt's Modest SR5 Premium Build

Hi Everyone,

I purchased my 2018 SR5 Premium a few years back, brand new, but time and two kids got in the way of me doing any mods. I love keeping up on this forum as everyone is so knowledgable and helpful. However, since COVID hit and being a teacher spending all my time at home and on the computer, I figured why not slowly start the process. Here are the few things I have been able to do:

1. Blacked out all badges
2. Tinted the front windows
3. Added Yakima five bike tilting rack
4. Put in a new Pioneer 9 inch tablet (I could not stand the stock system)
5. Tint film over the tail lights (super cheap and easy to install)
6. Smoked Amber Raptor lights
7. 17 inch Method 305 Titanium wheels

Next step is some new AT tires but I figured I would run the stock one down a little more and not tell the wife I need to spend more money. Do not plan on lifting but the more I spend time on this forum the more I spend my money. So, you never know!

 

Was the Pioneer plug/play or did you have to purchase a separate wiring harness? How did you mount it? How does it look on? I think that's all of the questions for now. I'd say you are doing tasteful upgrades.

 

I had it installed as this is not my area of expertise but I am pretty sure a harness was needed when I bought it. I also added Maestro iDatalink to keep all of the stock features of the 4Runner. I was hesitant about how the 9inch floating screen would look but it fits the space great. I have loved it!

Me too.., After almost five decades and this Covid scare, I decided to get a tetanus shot....,,,I feel better already...,,,,Congrats!!!

 

And they took blood.. God only knows what they will find..Hope they are careful. Prob release some weird strain from wild game never seen before....,,,

 

I think they dewormed me...,,,

 

Just ordered these for the 4Runner and picking them up today from 4wheeelparts. Could not stand watching my kids try to climb into the car with not steps. Had these on my 2016 Tacoma and they were great. Went with textured black instead of gloss black this time. The gloss scratches too easily. I am assuming these will fit right into the pre existing bolt holes on the car? Pics to come soon.

 

Just picked those same ones up but went with the 3inch tube, they bolt right up to the existing holes should take like 20 minutes to install.

Got the 2inch textured black nfab bars put on today. Kids were able to get in and out of the car no problem. Mission accomplished.

 

Those are the best looking, most functional, in my opinion...

 

Got bored yesterday and decided to just plasti-dip my roof rails as I could not stand looking at the silver on top of my essentially all black vehicle. Super easy to get done. Only hiccup was sliding my crossbars back on once the rails were sprayed. They got stuck and some of the inside of the rail had to be resprayed. Hindsight I should have just kept the cross bars on but you live and learn.

Threw on my Thule Force cargo box for a trip with the fam this week. I love this thing!

 

Getting ready to order plasti dip. How many cans did it take?

 

I did four coats for the entire rack and I used almost 4 cans. In hindsight i wish I did a few more coats but it is what it is. Hope this helps!

Been a while since I have updated here. Since February, threw on some Falken Wildpeaks 265/7017 on both my 4Runner and the wife’s. Also got the wife new fuel vapor wheels. Took off the nfab bars on my car and tossed them on the wife’s as I was not a fan of the way they looks on mine.

The Wildpeaks have been a great ride so far. Of course a little louder than the stock Bridgestone but nothing outrageous. A little rubbing with the front driver side but took off the mud flaps and problem solved. Can’t wait to head to Tahoe in a few months and take it out to some trails.

Finally, paid off my car so it’s nice to know it’s all mine!

I think I’m done spending money now. I think.

 

Took the leap and added a 3/2 Pro Comp spacer lift/leveling kit. Thanks to the wife for the early fathers day gift. I guess bigger tires are in order at some point but it turned out great. A before and after pic below.
