Take a chance ordering Lunar Rock or keep my Super White order?

    Hello,

I'm new to the site and a future owner of a 2021 TRD Pro. I've secured a super white Pro with a rear slide cargo deck and it's arriving any day now, but I'm having second thoughts on the color. Recently, the Lunar Rock has caught my eye and I read a few the comments on here about cancellations, potential delays, etc.

Should I stick with the super white or pull the trigger and place an order for a Lunar Rock and take my chances? I was told by the dealership that they can order a Lunar Rock with the same options and with an ETA of approximately four months. So they say.

Additionally, I've also secured a zero ADM and will be paying MSRP + $350(rear slide and $160(black out emblems).

Would like to hear your thoughts.

    Thanks

I’m sure others with more knowledge will chime in, but I think there have been a number of threads recently that said orders for ‘21s are done for. Not sure of the accuracy of that info. There are an equal number of threads dedicated to recent prices on all 4Rs and a price @ MSRP for a PRO is incredibly rare. Most places are selling them at a $10,000+ premium. I had a shot at two PROs (1AG 1LR) and I passed on both because of the inflated price. Just got a Venture editions last week and love it. Saved a bundle over a PRO. I actually really like the white PRO but it was for my wife and she said no to white. Either way you go, you’re gonna love the new ride!

Man that is a tough call. White looks great and it is already secured.
What is the plan if you pass and are not able to get a lunar rock?

I like the storm trooper look. Any issues with the white paint?

None so far. But I keep my 4R clean and always clay bar before re-waxing.

I also should have mentioned that I have been in two pea-sized hail storms and no damage or scratches at all. I am considering applying a ceramic coating.

An October 2021 delivery of a Lunar Rock? I don't know if you can trust that happening. But if you don't want white, don't get white. Regret stinks.

I'm not a big fan of white, but that's what I got and I think it looks great on the truck. That being said, I got an sr5 so lunar rock was off the table, and I think it looks incredible both in person and in pics. I think it's worth the shot, so long as you have a backup plan if it falls through

just my opinion...I think the lunar rock color is cool, but I feel like it's a trend....I like it now (looks cool on a lot of different vehicles) but could see being sick of it in a few years. that said, it's like others mentioned, go with what YOU like. It's a lot of money so you should get what you want.

    Food for thought:

It sounds like Lunar Rock will be an available color on the OffRoad Trim for the 2022 model. The Offroad trim comes in $10k cheaper than the Pro.

The 2022's would normally come out in September 2021.......so in 3-4 months. That's in a normal year, but this year isn't normal so there could be some delays with this timeline.

So if you order a 2021 Pro in Lunar Rock, you might be getting it around the same time the 2022 Offroad's in Lunar Rocks come out.

With your order due in any day, you'd do well to keep it. There's no guarantee you'd be able to even order another Pro anytime soon. The way used prices are going currently, you could likely turn around and sell your Pro for more than you are paying, seeing as how you got it for basically MSRP, which is pretty rare these days.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
I'm not a fan of white vehicles. They do have their place though in HOT climates. If I were you I'd go Lunar Rock. I like that color looks good on the Rav4 and looks good on the Pro.

If I lived in NV, AZ, NM, TX - I'd be tempted by white but silver would probably win out.

I had a white Hilux in Djibouti where temperatures would frequently reach 125F w/ 99% humidity. Having previously driven black vehicles in that heat, white really is the color to have. Stays cooler.

If it were me... I'd take the Pro you ordered in white. Then again, Lunar Rock is a cool color, also I'm not the one who has to live with the color choice.... you do. Get what you like and enjoy it! If things were a lot more normal on the availability end of car makers you could afford to switch and swap orders and not really sweat the extra 3-4 months, the dealerships could find whatever you wanted, move stuff around, do dealer swaps, etc. and find what you wanted. With the uncertainty of the car industry right now, I would stick with the vehicle you know is coming instead of a "maybe", but that's me, you'll make the right decision, whatever it is.... you can get the other color next time... right?

I had a white 2020 and babied it but the paint literally chipped off in two places, needless to say I was pissed and toyota told me to pound sand.

This is a really good point.

Take delivery of the white pro now.

When the 2022 Offroad in Lunar Rock comes out in fall, assess the situation and see if you can get more money for the Pro than you paid for it.

If so, trade the Pro and buy the Lunar Rock. Put $12-15k in your pocket........or do what the rest of us do and put all that savings towards mods :mudding:

I’d stick with the white. It will always looks good. With these weird new colors coming out I feel some might get sick of them down the road, but that’s just me. White has always looks so clean with the right wheel/tire setup.

Here’s mine. Not a 4runner but it’s older brother haha

I did read about some time ago issues with white paint, for 23 MY they call the pain Ice Cap now; so I am not sure if that is a new paint or the same white paint they used a few years back. If you do a search on white paint I am sure you can find some old threads with issues. I have no idea if it is still an issue just wanted to give you heads up what I recall reading a year or two ago

Agree, the white on my 18’ has held up well, but to be fair, vehicle spends most of the time in the garage.
