I edited my above post as you were posting

    I don't care

Basically, my wife (who is a Nurse Practitioner) got offered a baller job in Mansfield, and I'm pretty much done with the constant micromanagement, damned if you do damned if you don't damned if you have an independent thought of your own that doesn't assimilate to what the frothing hordes demand from their law enforcement... so she's taking that new job, we're buying a house within about 30 miles of Mansfield, I'm cashing the fuck out, and will do nothing for a minute. Probably go "back" to paramedic school; I let my EMT-I certification lapse when we came out here 5 years ago... closer to family, friends, cheaper cost of living, etc...

Well, besides the wife’s great new job (congratulations to her), moving back here must be hundreds (thousands?) of dollars cheaper per month just from a cost of living perspective. Maybe not. I have a friend in Escondido who says it’s terrifically expensive there. I know that’s south from you, but maybe still true?

Yeah. We're seriously destroying OP's thread about doors but oh well...

Cost of living is roughly double what it is back home. Salaries are proportionately more so it's not unreasonable to live here if you have a good job.

However, I'm done working in this toxic environment, answering to imbeciles, beating my head against the wall and accomplishing nothing; and if I'm not working then it makes no sense to live in a super-expensive place. I can exist on savings way longer in Ohio than I can here. My wife will be making the same amount there as here so that's a defacto raise of 100% for her; houses are 1/3 the cost; so we can afford a lot more even with me not working right away and taking a low-wage paramedic or similar job later (which is shameful, really, that paramedics make like $17 / hr)...

At first I thought this was someone talking about making a 2 door 2nd gen into a 4 door version but then I realized how stupid that was and that this was on 5th gen. WTF?

I guess you need all the doors you can get in case you need a way to escape from an unhappy spouse?

Maybe the need for more doors is a metaphor for needing more income?

More likely the OP is just fucking with us to see what funny reactions he can get from us, I feel like we need a photo (of the 4runner or lucky women) to get an idea of what we are dealing with here. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the last time we hear from OP.
    :worthless:

Selecting the correct 4runner door after marriage is a time honored tradition, I remember hearing the story of how my father presented my mother with a gold colored passenger side door from a 1993 4runner when he asked for her hand in marriage.

Congrats to MeefZah on the upcoming move, to the wife on the super job, and what sounds like a fresh breath of air!

This caught my attention because I'm born and raised Escondido/Valley Center, with thoughts of moving to Ohio (family lives in Columbus-she moved from Riverside county, and no regrets).....following!

Escondido is ridiculously expensive, especially considering it's infested with gangs, a recent high surge in crimes, and a very high/always rising level of homelessness, who have become very bold (touchy subject-just the facts). It's definitely not the place to be anymore.

I dont understand the pushy homeless persons thing in California......I live in Boston and we have plenty of homeless , they beg for money, aka panhandle,.............. but never get in your personal space. If they did, they would get punched in the face. (That's how I would handle it.)
Are Californians such girly men that they are afraid to hit a homeless person?
    is that frowned upon?

Being from Michigan we are not by nature Ohio fans . If you like fishing there is some great walleye fishing in Lake Erie and it’s much much cleaner now than the days of old. There are also a lot of nice people in Ohio that are friendly and I think overall you will be happy. The winters can be hard like here in Michigan but it’s all what we make of it.

In the end though we are all Americans (plus our Canadian friends in this site). It would be nice if all us could be more patriotic overall. I remember the days after 9/11 when this country banded together and we all had USA flags on our windows and supported one another. I wish I saw that same level of patriotism each day without having to go through another disaster like that.

Best wishes in Ohio my friend.

Most of them are completely unhinged mental patients, like criminally insane, and when they snap it takes like five or six people to wrestle them down. They’re not homeless because they are poor or down on their luck, they are homeless because they are bat shit insane and dangerous.

Mess with California homeless at your own peril.

LOL. Mental illness exacerbated by drug use and emboldened by lax enforcement of weak laws and further entitled by the federal court ruling allowing them to live anywhere on public property. The inmates are truly running the asylum.

It's a damn shame because other than the fucking people, Calif is a great state!

My friend in Escondido that I mentioned earlier, a homeless couple moved onto their back porch for months. When they asked the police to do something, their response was that homelessness isn’t a crime, and nothing was done. The only thing they could do was make them clean up after themselves. It was hard to believe until she showed me pics. It’s idiotic. And of course, I don’t blame the police. To me it sounds like there are no options but to leave.

My wife has a friend who recently moved out of Suisun and she literally had homeless people living in her front yard.

Everyone keeps moving into the suburbs or fortifying their neighborhoods.

So this is more lazy police work than it is upholding the law.

Private property is still subject to laws as they pertain to trespass. If some shitheel is squatting on your porch, he's breaking the law and committing a misdemeanor. Granted, the jail probably won't hold him for it, but it doesn't mean he's not committing a crime. He is subject to arrest and removal from the property. Hell, as the owner, your friends can literally toss his ass to the street with zero repercussions, or physically detain him for a private party arrest and hold him for police. See Calif Penal Code 602 and subsections esp (o).

The "homelessness is not a crime" bullshit pertains to public spaces, parks and greenbelts and the like. The 9th District Court (federal), which covers the western US, ruled in a case against Boise, Idaho that people have to be able to sleep somewhere and by prosecuting them for criminal violations for just being on public property equates to "criminalizing homelessness". The court therefore struck down Boise's city ordinance about sleeping / camping on public property and all similar city ordinances and state statutes relating to that became illegal overnight.

This is an example of a good idea done wrong, which is common in the establishment of laws. The people that write laws and make legal decisions about how they can be enforced always presume that the subjects governed by those laws are competent, good citizens. The thing is... they aren't. So the lawmakers say "homeless should be able to sleep anywhere", thinking that a homeless guy is a stereotypical 1930s hobo with a stick and a kerchief, who's just riding the rails from town to town and looking for honest work. He's only going to sleep for 4 hours and then neatly police up his camp and be on his way to the next town! Except, he isn't, and he won't; and the people that write these laws are so out of fucking touch with reality that they might as well be on another planet. That's not a political comment, both sides are complete fools. So our intrepid homeless guy destroys the land in a 50' circle around his tent, hangs tarps off fences and statues, pisses and shits on everything, starts a warming fire that catches the nearby woods on fire, litters junk food wrappers everywhere, smokes meth, breaks into cars to support smoking meth, begins to network with other similar shitbags, and then one dirtbag turns into 4 dirtbags turns into 20 turns into Skid Row.

It's really frustrating seeing the problem and having to stand there with my dick in my hand doing shit about it.

This isn’t just a California problem. Oregon and Washington, among others, have their share of homeless too.
It *is* a huge problem and nobody really knows what the hell to do about it.
