    I'm still shaking.

I cleaned my floormats this morning (Weathertech's) and reinstalled them a few hours ago.
I got in about 20 minutes ago, fired it up, and it went all the way up to 5900RPM's instantly. After about 1.5 seconds my brain managed to shut it off.

Waited about a minute while panicking. Got down on the floor and saw the mat pinning the gas down. Fixed that issue (completely my fault) and restarted, and it sounds fine, no smoke, etc.

Holy jeez. Let's hope it survives without any issue. Luckily it's 75 here today so it wasn't 0 in the winter. 0w20 oil.

Sucks but it will be fine. In my Tacoma I had just cleaned and put my WT mats back in not seeing that driver side mat was slightly on the throttle. I started it up and the revs were slightly higher but figured it was the cold start. I shifted into reverse which basically did a slight neutral drop with a reverse burnout but never had issues with the trans.

I did the same thing many years ago with the hard version of the Weathertechs. It does take a few seconds to figure out what's going on!

Good news is your ECU shouldn't let your RPM exceed prescribed limits. Years ago this was an industry wide problem with floor mats either impeding WOT or causing issues such as what you described. Anyway, thanks for the reminder for us all to check our floor mats occasionally..

Might have paniced you but I promise the engine is fine. Probably won't make it to 500k miles now, but I bet it still goes 490k.

If either myself, or the Runner, gets to 490k, I'll pull it with my bare hands another 10k to get it to 500k!

Probably the reason late model cars usually have floor mats "locked" in a manner they can't shift around. Very sad story in San Diego - my birth city.

At least your not on the switch backs "making time", now that gets the blood going.

That is very sad. I remember all of those stories in the news years ago.

Sadly every company has issues they don’t want to own up to. It’s cheaper to pay some attorney fees and some hold no value on life. They all put on a good dog and pony show but it’s money is the bottom line.

Remember Firestone tires and Explorers or the Ford Pinto gas tanks, Takata air bags in how many makes

    UPDATE:
Everything appears to be fine. Drove 100 miles last night doing Uber and zero issues.

    Phew.
