Hi. Was curious if this is normal. 2020. Normally I plug in for CarPlay. When I don't, I notice the bluetooth is never connected. I have to always click the screen to connect the bluetooth as music player and phone. Minor inconvenience but would prefer when not plugged into CarPlay that it auto connected to bluetooth. Is this normal operation as is? Thanks.

Same problem, same fix. Don't know of another way to do it unfortunately.

Thank you. I was wondering if mine had an issue or if this was standard operation. Appreciate it.

There is wireless auto connect for apple or android car play so you don't have to plug in. Don't know how well they work haven't used one.

Thanks but rather not mess with the factory unit. Just trying to use regular bluetooth and have automatically connect.

Wireless CarPlay has three requirements, a Bluetooth connection, a Wi-Fi access point, and location data. ... After the Wi-Fi connection has been established, the Bluetooth signal will disconnect and all audio and video will be transferred over Wi-Fi. And now you're set, you now can use CarPlay wirelessly.

Unpair on your phone in bluetooth settings and also on the head unit, then repair. Normal operation is automatic Bluetooth pairing…had this issue too and that exercise fixed it

Please expand upon the connection instructions for wireless CarPlay. I have a 2020 TRD OR so this should work. Apologies if this has been covered before elsewhere, but this would be fantastic for my upcoming 2 day drive, to no have to have my phone plugged in the whole time (premature battery degradation).

I think the OP wants carplay via BT, which wont work. BT doesn't have the bandwidth for carplay, the unit must act as an WiFi AP to which the device (your phone) connects. Newer headunits might have that, aftermarket has it.
For short trips is ok, but I keep mine connected to get it charged anyway.
