2016 4 runner TRD Pro vs 4runner Trail base/premi

I was wondering if there is a lift difference in the pro to a base/premium? The freaking dealer won't answer me on this and I can't find it anywhere in my literature they gave me.

The difference between the trail and premium is the premium has leather, heated seats, and sunroof. The Pro adds different shocks, front springs that lift the front a little, beefier skid plate, wheels/tires, and another color option only available on the Pro.

 

It was a 2.5 aND 2 inch lift front/rear respectively. I'll confirm in the morning with our product sheet. To be fair, we weren't educated on it.... we had to dig through files to find the real answers.

 

Oops sorry. Same height as the other 4x4 models. Only Taco and Tundra received the slight lift.

 

The Trd Pro front suspension has at least a 1 inch lift, maybe 1.25". I can't remember for sure. I ended up going with the base Trail version. You can always purchase the Pro suspension from a Toyota dealer or go with an aftermarket option.
The Trail and Pro are identical mechanically with the exception of the suspension.
There is no change in the rear springs from a Trail or Pro so the rear height is the same. Only the front is raised on the Pro.

 

trail and trail premium can have the option of KDSS. No KDSS on the Pro which was a showstopper for me.

 

The TRDP model has .5" additional front lift. The apporach and departure angles are the exact same between the Trail, TP, and TRDP. Not sure how Toyota managed to slightly lift the front but not improve approach angle.... this information is according to the sales brochure on Toyota's website.

I would suggest if you want an actual lift to not get the Pro (it's suspension is more geared toward high speed desert running or woops where suspension fluid has a tendancy to overheat (hence the resevoir shocks) and is the main reason for the drastic markup in price (so buying this model only to rip out the suspension doesn't make much sense unless you want the TRDP exclusive color (inferno (15), quicksand (16) or cement (17).

The TRDP is essentially a base Trail model with sofTex seats and a different suspension (no sunroof, no kdss).
It's arguably the worst value amongst the 4Runner models in terms of functionality in my opinion but it doesn't mean I don't think it's cool looking.... but if cool looking is what you're after (and you're not intrigued by the TRDP exclusive color option)...you could always get a Barcelona Red Metallic Trail, add some Wet Okole seat covers (arguably more functional than softex), the TRDP or TRD Rock Warrior Forged wheels and TRD grill and an actual lift of your choice and still be under 40K.... The beauty of this option is in 2017 Barcelona Red Metallic (along with super white and cement) are going to be the TRDP colors so you'll have what looks like a TRDP but have more functionality (greater approach and departure angles assuming you lift it) for a lot less coin... totally your preference though... good luck

 

I am in the same boat... My wife and I love the old school look (grill) of the TRDP and she even liked the quicksand. We have been in the off road community for years and my current trail truck is a built Land Cruiser. The new 4Runner will be her DD, but will eventually replace the Cruiser down the road. We live in Colorado and spend a lot of time on rough trails in CO and UT. I am not expecting a crawler, but I want something that will be very capable and ready to use at a later date.

I am torn between the TRDP with the Bilstein suspension and the Trail Premium with KDSS. So far, I think as long as we have the locking rear diff and the crawl modes/KDSS we will be good. Toyota is telling us the TRDP's are order only at this point and if you order, 12 weeks out. Going with the TRDP seems like we will just be paying for a pricey front grill and different colors and probably would end up replacing the suspension later anyways. Anyone know anything about the 2017s, when they will be out, offer a V8, upgrades/options, body style changes? Comments?

 

2017 will be same as 2016 except color options.

 

I currently own a '14 Raptor but am looking to get back into a 4Runner (3 time owner). Anyway, my plan was to order a '17 TRDP in cement but I've read article after article stating the '17 is a redesign year. I'm not a big fan of the quicksand, black or white (wife just purchased a '16 super white). I know the Chicago auto show pics make it seem as if the '17 will NOT be a redesign but none of my local (Las Vegas) dealers can or will confirm. What do you all think: pull the trigger on the '16 or wait on the '17?

 

17 will be the same as 16, just different colors. Buy the color you like... I am waiting for a cement 17.
