A number of 4Runner guys have installed this mod but I was chastised recently because many others don't know about the FRAC Harness. So I thought I'd post a little overview here.

In 2016 I designed and built the original FRAC Harness for my Tundra. After I posted some pics and videos I was requested to build a few more for some guys over at our sister forum; Tundras.com. Well, one thing led to another and now a few years later I have built thousands of them in my spare time. It is perfectly compatible with 2014-2021 4Runners, Tacomas, Sequoias, and other Toyota models, but I have never really discussed it much outside the Tundra forum. So here's the scoop.

The FRAC harness is a plug and play modification that enables Front and Rear Anytime Camera display on your Entune Head Unit (and most After-market head units if you use plug and play adapters).

You can view a FRAC Harness installation video below. It's a Tundra Installation but aside from the dash panel differences, everything connects the same way on the 4Runner.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpYwnwM28FQ

Additionally, for vehicles with OEM navigation, the FRAC harness will enable all nav functions, all the time, with a Vehicle In Motion (VIM) switch. This video describes how that function works:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKAtV_VAIRM

You provide the front camera of your choice, and the FRAC harness kit will provide everything else. The price is $188.00 and includes shipping. Applicable sales tax will be added for Texas shipping addresses. Harnesses are sent via USPS Priority Mail (with tracking number) to U.S. addresses only.

To order, you can visit the FRAC Harness Website. After I have reviewed your completed order, I will process a PayPal invoice and e-mail it to you. FRAC Harness kits are built when ordered and will be shipped in the order that payments are received.

Does your kit come with a button/switch that fits in factory switch bank?
    Any recommendations on front cameras?

Yes, it does. The kit includes blank bezels that fit into the standard Toyota switch receptacle. The switches can be mounted in the bezel or in any other panel you choose. I recommend the the Natika Front camera. It's available on Amazon. Great camera, great price, great warranty, great customer service.

Subbing as I'm interested in picking this up but need spend some time with your videos first to see what I'm getting into. I adventure by myself a lot and would benefit greatly with that front camera rig.

I’ve been told by customers of mine who researched the anytime product that if you include the optional Nav override cost (comes built in with the FRAC harness), and shipping, the cost is about the same as my kit plus a Natika camera. But dollars are important so I respect a frugal customer. I’m also told that my single plug and play harness is easier to install than the multiple pieces in the other kit. Obviously that’s subjective. Either way, I’d happily value you as a customer and I respect your opinion if you decide my kit is not the best option for you. I have plenty of stock in place for the holiday season if you decide to order from me.

Always happy to answer any questions you may have.

Wise man! It’s always better to do your research up front instead of when your truck is disassembled in the middle of a mod!!

I’ll be happy to answer any questions you come up with. You can also check out the hundreds of FRAC posts on our sister forum (www.Tundras.com) for lots of user comments, install tips and methods, and pictures.

The wiring methods are identical between the Tundra and the 4Runner. The only real differences are how the Head Unit and grill are removed.

Thanks Lou! I see you recommended the Natika camera. I don't have the Toyota emblem on the grill as I swapped it for the heritage (pro) grill. Any specific model recommendations to save me from pouring through posts? I searched on Natika and see they offer a lot of different models.

    Thanks!

This is the one most guys use for the grills with the horizontal slats.

It might take me a while. 2 weeks to order maybe and then I need to figure out if I'm doing it myself or paying someone else. I'm not the most confident with electrical, I work an insane amount of hours in I.T. and I have a very long honey-do list. Lol :annoyed:

The FRAC harness is extremely easy to install electrically. There are two connectors that you disconnect from the head unit and plug into the FRAC, and then plug the FRAC connectors into the head unit. There is one power wire on the FRAC to connect to your front camera power wire. And then you connect the camera ground wire to the truck chassis. That’s it for Truck electrical connections. Then the cam switch plugs into a 3-wire switch line. (Red, White, and Blue for built in the USA!) and the VIM switch plugs into a 2-wire switch line. And you’re all done!

The rest of the job is pulling panels and the grill, but those are very simple tasks with tons of how-to videos on YouTube.

    You can do it!!

    All of them.
Do you have any reviews or input from 20+ owners on the 4R side? I tried the anytime mod from the other vendors and were no go. Even just using an extra rear camera to replace stock was no go as well. Something in the wiring harness for the 20+ didn’t work out.

I don’t know how the anytime guy wires his harness. I don’t have any specific 4Runner reviews but I’ve sold a couple dozen to 4R 20+ guys with no complaints. So I’m assuming they are happy. I can tell you that the 4Runner factory wiring that ties into my FRAC Harness is 100% identical to the wiring in the Tundra and there are hundreds of 20+ Tundra guys that are happy with it.

I will be ordering one this afternoon. I have a 2018 4Runner TRD Off Road Prem that's been lifted 3". I do have a Warn Bumper w/hoop I will be installing once the dreaded winter is over. (anything below 60deg is freakin winter) The grill has not been modified from stock. What camera are you recommending?
    Thanks

I highly recommend this NATIKA camera available on Amazon. Great performance, price, and support. As well as adaptability for different mounting orientations.

    Satisfied 2021 ORP user.

I paired it with the natika camera widely recommended, mounted in front of the top of the TSS sensor. I have an SSO lo profile bumper with the high hoop. The hoop runs along the top edge of the photo, my tie-down points show up in the bottom corners, so I can see the front most parts of the car in the video shot. Great resolution for rock crawling. 10/10 recommend.

Could you post a picture of where you mounted your camera? The only place I’m seeing looks to be under the piece that holds the Toyota emblem which would put it directly in front of the TSS sensor. I’m assuming that is where you describe installing yours? Seems that would be asking for issues?

You would think so, but if you imagine that the sensor is actually much smaller than the panel, and likely more interior, centrally located, it makes sense that it wouldn’t impede anything critical. And it doesn’t. There are at least a half a dozen folks on this forum with the same setup and zero reported TSS issues.

Good to know thanks. The Natika camera is smaller than I imagined it. Going to get started on getting mine setup. TundaTex has a good thing going here.

@Marcor, the beamwidth for the TSS is narrow enough that the bumper guard doesn't cause problems, so that camera location works out well. And I can confirm what @OverRunner said, that lots of customers have mounted it there with no issues. Looking forward to some more awesome 4Runner FRAC pics!

For those of you who don't want to use the threaded stud Natika Camera, there is another option. It's the same great Natika camera body inside of a flange-mount housing. It can also be mounted on a plate frame that comes with the camera. You can get it on Amazon for the same price as the stud model. It can be found here.

This is an awesome mod. Nice work! It's worth it even if it's just for the reverse camera on-demand feature.

I bought the FRAC harness pre-covid and this upcoming weekend I'll start the install. I still have to figure out the camera since I have a WARN bumper with hoop now. Don't think the traditional place will work. Hopefully I'll be feeling ok, parts of the Covid seem to linger on. Spoke to someone today that said they've been feeling the effects for over a month after. Jan 15th I ordered, did not realize it had been this long.
