I have a 15 year old 4runner with 160,000 miles and is on its original water pump, radiator and alternator. V6 engine and transmission have never been touched - except for 6-quart tranny drain and fill by the TOYOTA dealer at 105,000 miles with T-IV. 4runner transmissions hold 12 quarts of tranny fluid.

Replaced AC evaporator core and AC compressor recently.

    No rust on body!

How long can these 4runners last before they got to go to the junk yard.

Depends on the owner. With the right driver and the right maintenance (mostly just keeping up with fluids), they'll run virtually forever. There's a guy at my school with 560k on his '04. Mine's an '02 and it's got 272K, no major problems.

This is my 2005 v6 4runner. has 226k miles on it, overheated the crap out of it once. Still mint, no HG problems and I would never use Blue Devil on it. Original starter, original WP, original oil, original ac compressor, original evaporator core, and 2nd alternator. Do you have any pictures of your 4runner?

    T-IV ATF in a 2005 5 speed 4runner?

Is this thread about 4runners or a fish & a boat?

This is captsolo/fordf150's MO. Misinformation about Toyotas. 1) The fluid for his sealed transmission. (Should be WS, not what he claims) 2) synthetic oil is to "slippery" and synthetic causes oil leaks. 3)ScottyK knows all and is a millionaire like him...

I like the good information on this site, not the "fake news" provided by the captain.

Amazon.com: Toyota 00279-000T4 Automatic Transmission Fluid, 192 Ounces, 6 Pack: Automotive

Valvoline says right on the bottle good for Toyotas. I've never used it.

The Toyota dealer that sold me the 4runner new used T-1V - which is what Toyota used in my car in 2005 when it was brand new.

When the dealer did a D/F in 2010 he used T-1V. I have their receipt still.

I've used T-1V for 15 years and the tranny still shifts like when it was new.

Never put WS in my 4runner. I've seen it written that it is not that good a TF.

I tried the WS one time and it caused leaks around the pan and down on the ground, so I drained it and put T-1V in there. The T-IV causes no leaks in my 2005 4runner. I have 160,000 miles on my 05 4runner as of today (5-18-2021).

    BTW T-1V is semisynthetic.

Valvoline? Spinning a new story about WS causing leaks in your transmission doesn't change the fact that your 2005 is a sealed transmission that requires WS.

I hope no other forum reader ever reads your advice as it is always incorrect and skewed by the reality you create for yourself.

    Hey YoYo!

    I'm not giving advice.

The Toyota dealer (Executive Motors, Nassau) that sold me my 4runner brand new in 2005 did the service in 2011 with 6 quarts of T-1V.

    Can't you read?

So. You know better than the T. dealer.

Now with 160,000 miles and 15 years later and she shifts fine. What do you recommend?

BTW.. There is a poster who went 230,000 miles on his Toyota transmission without ever changing the fluid.

    Owners Manual pg 220 221

Automatic Transmission Fluid: Inspect at 40,000 km / 24 months
    80,000 km 48 months I (inspect)
No replacement interval for ATF in OM

Toyota Automatic Transmission Fluid - Wikipedia

    Differential gear oil
    I at 20,000 km and 60,000 km
    R = replace 40,000 kmiles / 24 months
    80,000 km Replace 80,000 km / 48 months

    4runner service schedule.pdf

Toyota Automatic Transmission Fluid - type, capacity, instruction | Rebuild instructions (at-manuals.com)

    Dealer writes: 106,295 miles
    transmission fluid Type4 (5 quarts)
    gasket new
silicone $5.43 (probably a whole tube?)
    strainer assy oil ATM $170
    5 transmission fluid $51.80 ($10.36)

I recommend using the correct fluid. 2005 5 speed 4runners did NOT come with T-IV. Craptn said before on the other forum the only reason the dealership used T-IV was because they didnt have any WS, but now claims it came with T-IV when new. 9 out of 10 people on that thread said its the wrong fluid for a 2005... yet he still doesnt get it or cant accept it.

WS fluid did NOT cause any leaks, thats the first hes ever said that. Leaks are caused by bad gaskets, loose nuts/bolts or being overfilled. WS nor synthetic oil cause leaks, he still has oil leaks on 10/40 conventional but blames synthetic for the leaks, also says to tighten oil filters to 1/4 turn when they clearly say 3/4 to 1 full turn, maybe thats why its leaking??

Valvoline is a universal fluid that can work for both types of fluid & many other makes & models, toyota brand fluid is not & is specific for its intended purpose. Granted using "6" qts wont cause the trans to blow up suddenly but it is not the correct fluid toyota recommends. no 2005 4runner came with T-IV when new.

Please stop posting misinformation, people are trying to help you & others reading these posts by providing correct factual info...

Cue more of the childish name calling & bragging.

Yes it is, that was the joke. I attached an irrelevant picture, kinda like you do with your fish and boat

I have a 2005 4runner with the 5 speed transmission, just like you. It uses WS and had WS from the factory.

I'm starting to think you don't even have a 4runner lol. Post a pic to show us

You must be blind because there's a picture of a blue 2005 4runner on every post.

    July14TBoat-BE.jpg

Yes. She was a fun boat to have for the 11 years I had her until I sold her a few years ago. The builder was from Miami. He died just 6 months ago. He was a genius when it came to building solid boats and fitting three F225 Yamahas on mine that lasted 11 years before an engine failure. Boat (42 feet long including transom called a Performance) never developed any sort of leak below the water line. You could leave her all week through rain after rain, and the 4 batteries would keep her afloat. SS rigging held the Yamahas and steering through lots of bad sea. Picture is at Old Fort Bay on west end of Nassau - just next to Lyford Cay - on a windless sunny day. This one cruised at 40 mph with a top speed of 50 mph.

The 71.1 pound mahi mahi caught in the Marlin Marine tournament 20 years ago was weighed on a $5000 tournament scale and may still be the heaviest ever landed in a Nassau Bahamas tournament.

Fish took a drifted squid with engines off while two anglers were fighting smaller mahi mahi in the Exuma Sound just a few miles north of Highbourne. We threw "chunk" to get the school to come in and "eat". Fish won a $500 gift certificate at the tournament dinner for the guy (Albert) in the picture who had never rod and reeled a fish before this day. We finished second in points for the tournament - beating the "White Rat" for the second year in a row! Scott Kelly's White Rat (a 50 foot Viking) was always the boat you had to beat to win over here.

We watched as the "big fella" swam up to the baited (double) hooks with a whole squid, and just stopped and looked at the floating morsel; than just came in and swallowed it and ran off when he felt the hook. One big leap - entirely out of the water - was all he bothered to do, before Albert reeled him in slowly on 50 pound test line (tournament limited test to 50 pounds - but 20 feet of leader was allowed and could be 100 pounds or more).

I stuck "him" with a "Canyon" gaff used for big tuna by New Yorkers fishing the Canyons in open Atlantic 100 miles out at sea off Long Island. Had to call for help lifting him over the gunnel.

LOL, I read all the posts in the other form and here and it would be so easy for him to prove. All he has to do is post a picture and yet he completely refuses to do it. Makes you really wonder if he is who he says he is and actually owns a 4Runner.

They were three 4 stroke Yamaha 225s. The trannies sit in the water.

He's not talking about the boat! He is asking, like numerous others have, to post a pic of your 4runners shifter or engine bay to prove once & for all what transmission it has & what ATF should be used. Are you capable of doing that?

Bug off. I know what tranny fluid belongs in my 15-year-old 4runner. Mind your own business on this. My Toyota dealer knows more, and you don't know enough about Toyota transmissions to give advice... so bug off, please.

Captsolo-FordF150, please listen to the advice of the forum. You've proven over and over that you DO NOT know what belongs in your sealed transmission: WS fluid. Again, I hope no one takes the "information" you provide and uses it.

You continue to validate that you are wrong, just by failing to provide the proof required to back up your misunderstandings of your own 4runner.
