Mystery Lift?

Hi y’all!

Just picked up a 2015 Trail yesterday and noticed its a bit higher than the other runners in the area. Decided to look closer and noticed Toytec branding on the shocks. Great success! I plan on using it for various roadtrips, camping, offroading (big bend in 2 weeks), overland.

Does anyone know how to check which model of Toytec lift kit is on this? -or estimate the height of it?

Ordered the 17in black TRD rims as well. What size tires would y’all suggest given that its pre-lifted?

Any tips / suggestions / insults greatly appreciated!

 

Looks like you have spacers, probably their 3”/2” leveling kit. Not the greatest for off-roading in my opinion as there’s no performance increase, but they work.

As @Mtbpsych said it looks like a basic 3/2 leveling kit.

You can always upgrade to their 2.0 or 2.5 Aluma series lift or any other full suspension lift if you want.

As for wheels you already have good wheels for bigger tires. Meaning those Trail wheels are 7.5in wide and can go upto 285 wide tires (commonly used 285/70R17 or even bigger 285/75R17 tires). Black TRD wheels look good but they are narrow (7in wheels) which are not recommend for wider tires like 285/70R17. I highly suggest either you use stock wheels with bigger tires or if you are set spending money for wheels buy a good set of aftermarket wheels that is wide enough for bigger tires.

With my experience with a different leveling kit with 3/2 spacers there are nothing wrong but limit the wheel travel.

 

IMO you are lucky.

Toytec do charge a pretty good money to install and you save all that money.

With that setup you can just upgrade tires to 285/70R17 with same wheels and see how it goes. I'm pretty sure you will not regret that to start with. This will give you enough time to research on other suspension lifts which is a rabbit hole.

I personally think it's fine to run a 285 on the pro wheel but everyone has different opinions.

 

I agree.. There are so many people running 285s on TRD PRO wheels. Its just tire manufacturers do not recommend as per spec sheet.

 

What size and brand / model tires? Hard to see in your image... they look like 285s to me.

 

Looks like a Bridgestone Dueler HT. Not sure about tire size. You're right they do look bigger than stock though.

I'm new to the forum and new to owning a 2016 SR5 that's stock. What is your wheel/tire combo? Appears to be a solid lift installed. I have a Toytec 2.5 Aluma lift sitting on my office floor waiting to be installed and I'm looking at tire and wheel sizing. From what I can find, 285/70/17's will require some liner movement, trimming, etc. with a 3"/2" suspension lift. I'm hoping to get some firsthand information rather than the suggestions from vendors. What can you tell me about your setup? I live on a couple miles of gravel road so I want to keep the tires close to inside the wells so I don't tear up the paint down the sides.

 

Do you know what the offset is on your Icons?

 

That appears to be our Toytec 3'' front spacer kit and 2'' rear lift spring kit (Link below). From the pictures you provided, it appears that the kit was not installed correctly, as you can see the shock stem is off center within the mounting assembly itself. I assume you might be hearing a slight squeaking noise?

I would HIGHLY recommend getting it back into the shop where you purchased from to get the front end inspected sooner than later for sure. That shock rod is not in the proper location, which will cause serious damage.

The more that shock moves up and down when driving it acts as a "saw" that will slowly saw away the side of the top mount and will eventually break and leave your vehicle compromised.


Here is a picture to one of our top mounts that a customer tried to rebuild himself and didn't do it correctly causing the same thing to happen.

 

The ICON wheels are as follows.

Ooh no! Thanks for catching that. I will definitely take it in soon to get it mounted correctly (might drop the money on suspension if I have to make an appointment out of it).
Anyone here from Austin and have any recommendations on shops?
