I would build the Suburban! Check out SubOverland on IG and YT, then build them out for overlanding, mostly the GMT800 series that you have.

If I were to get rid of my 4R, I'd replace it with a GMT800 suv.

I have seen their site! Great concept, cheap alternative and crazy spacious! Our Suburban still runs well (2002 Z71 with 235,000 mile). Cool dark green color, brand new BFG KO2's and removed the 3rd row years ago. Burning and dripping some oil, some rust on the rear quarter panels and needs a new driver's seat. Great vehicle to secure contents and sleep in. If I lived out west I would definitely build out the Suburban, but would be reluctant to travel that far in it (live in MD). One of my son's is leaving for Montana State Univ this fall and wants to take the Suburban, but we don't trust it for the journey. Putting some snow tires on our 2013 Honda Pilot for him to take. Wife wants to get rid of it, but we four boys want to keep it till it dies. Bought it new for $36,000 in 2002 and it has been a great family vehicle. Now a hunting and fishing rig!

At 59 I am selfishly longing for the modern comforts of a 2021 4Runner!

Extremely long shot! Months ago here in the Maryland and Northern Virginia suburbs of DC about half of the Toyota dealerships I had spoken with said they sold the Pro's at MSRP out of respect for customer relations / principle. Now they are ALL selling them above MSRP when they have a Pro! I randomly lucked out with Lunar Rock 4R this Saturday at $2,000 above MSRP and this particular dealership on three previous conversations over several months told me they sold their Pro's at MSRP. I was in no position to negotiate! He easily could have sold that LR 4R for $5,000 above MSRP within 24 hours!

Just because it shows online in inventory does not necessariliy mean it is not sold. My order shows up on my dealer website and inbound.

My dealer told me all orders show up on the dealer websites (even the ones spoken for) so it might be or might not be available. Just a fyi

Yeah I know what you mean. I have had to place deposits down for things before. I am starting to call some dealers today and see what the odds are. I have no problem keeping the GX, but this would be a welcomed addition.

Well, I did it. I sold my '19 TRD PRO for $54k. Surprising, a Toyota dealership took it for that price.

At the time of sale, the vehicle had 17k miles and was equipped with a Gobi roof rack/ladder/sun roof insert, Rigid light bar and an ARB dual air compressor mounted under the hood among other small accessories. Awning and rotopax not included in the deal, I kept them!

The plan, when we purchased the 4Runner in 2019 was to keep it "forever". We had one child at the time and planned on 3 kids total, give or take one. So I knew I'd need a third row eventually. The thought was that I would sell my wife's '01 4Runner Limited and get a used sequoia or similar (obviously putting in more from our savings to be able to make a purchase).

This market changed our plans, however. With being able to sell the vehicle for about 4 grand more than I paid, it was a no brainer to sell and get a much newer bigger vehicle than we would have been able to afford without selling it.

It was heartbreaking for both my wife and I to see the car go, as we both loved it so much, but at the end of the day, family comes first and I felt I had to take advantage of a an incredible financial opportunity when it came knocking!

P.S. the dealership was NOT happy with the salesman who found the vehicle through Facebook Marketplace and made the offer. It did not give them much wiggle room at all. Just looked today and the vehicle is listed for sale at $55,600.

Got offered more for my 16 Trail than I paid for it last year. I have looked for a replacement...Gray, Black, or Blue Off road premium with a cargo tray. No luck. Found an unclaimed Pro at MSRP but no tray and not ready to drop another 18k on top of my payout. So I’m keeping it. My trail has 70,000k on it but it runs and drives like a new one. Toyota.com only allows sunroof and cargo tray option on a silver off road with KDSS. If you hit sunroof, no cargo tray on any other color. Must be only so many in the pipeline left or something. Here’s to 2022 model year!

A word of caution to all - make sure you’ve identified a vehicle that you will be replacing your 4Runner with (if that is the case). Market is absolute crap right now. It is very hard to find a desirable vehicle in stock and most dealerships are selling above MSRP only and are absolutely non-negotiable. Surely there might be exceptions - but I just wanted to give you al a heads up.
If making a switch - find a deal that you’re looking for first, put a deposit on it - and then trade your car in and make the way of the arrangements

I think the only way selling really makes sense is if you don't like the car, don't need to replace it, or are going to downgrade. Going out and buying high on a new vehicle seems to cancel out selling high on the old vehicle.

Selling your current 4R for 40K and then moving down to a 10k car makes sense to me.

Dealerships may be offering more than what you paid for your vehicle, but don't forget about the money you put into it.

Exactly..just like with a house, it's a seller's market which means you won't get any deals buying a replacement. Luckily we have another vehicle and just had our second child, so we aren't driving much at all and have plenty of time to search the internet for a decent vehicle, or just wait until prices go down a bit, but I don't see that happening very soon
Another thing people don't take into consideration is interest they have paid on their loan. All things considered, if I'm not braking even, I'm still a bit on the positive end!

LOL The pre-owned values on these 4R's is crazy !!! LOL I just took delivery on my 2021 TRD/ORP with moon roof this past Friday. So, just for fun I went to the KBB website to see what it's trade-in value would be with 200 miles on it. LOL Well, there was no 4R update for the 21' year yet.
So I entered the same thing as a 2020 with 1,000 miles. The trade-in value shown was the same as what I paid for a new 21". LOL Go figure .

You know there are problems when Longo Toyota has zero 4runners in stock. Last year this time when I bought mine they had 50-70 in stock.

Took my truck in for fuel pump recall. No 4Runners at the dealership, entire lot in the back that is usually full, was sparse.

I have had two offers that were $4k more then I paid for a 2019 TRD ORP with KDSS two years ago.

Hmmmm.......Curious. With all the 2021's being mostly pre-sold, depleting any Dealer inventory, and reading that Toyota is not accepting any more orders for PRO Models, one might be forgiven in wondering if Toyota is actually making 2021 the last year for the 5th Generation ? Toyota is very secretive anyway. The best information is that the current Generation will continue and end with the 22' Model year. But what if ?

Koons Toyota in Tysons Corner, VA (just outside DC) is showing a Lunar Rock Pro 4R for $65,324. They currently have 30 4R's between their six MD & VA dealerships and only one Pro. Probably 20% or more of those 30 4R's are enroute instead of onsite! Slim pickings!

While it's certainly tempting to sell one's vehicle after a year and a half of ownership for more than paid new, I just keep remembering all the times over the years I went to the Toyota dealerships in town for service on my Tacoma...I would look longingly at the 4Runners, thinking 'wish I could drive one of those one day', and drooling over the showroom models...circumstances being what they were in 2019, I was finally able to get the vehicle I always dreamed of having. And driving it around, I just can't imagine what I could get that I would enjoy driving more. It's paid for, and even my wife says 'why would you want to do that?' (sell it)

So I just sit back and enjoy the show.:popcorn:

You got it GLWood. I am counting my blessings that I can afford one, have the resources as well as the fact that I am in the midst of getting one.

I will sit back and watch. Hope to have her to enjoy for summer.
