    Hello everyone,

I've got a quick question regarding my UCAs. I finally decided that I'm going to install the lift myself(God, I hope this isn't a mistake *laughs*) and realized that I need to buy some grease for my Dirt Kings.

In their manual they recommend Prothane for the bushings and Lithium-based for the ball joint, however, I've been reading about Green Grease and was wondering if it was suitable for both the ball joint and bushings? Or, is it just meant for the ball joint, and I'm going to need a different grease for the bushings?

When it comes to components like that, always best to use what the manufacturer recommends. They know their products the best. Especially if you were to ever need something replaced/fixed under warranty.

If you expect the dealer to grease them for you, I guarantee you they’ve never even touched it.

So I don’t think it honestly matters.

    Green grease claim:

Ideal for general chassis lubrication, including U-joints, tie-rod ends, upper and lower A-arms, CV-type driveshaft's, ball/roller and sealed -for-life bearings, any application up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Green Grease lasts longer than ordinary grease, provides superior parts and equipment protection, and is compatible with lithium and petroleum-based greases.

Ideal - lots of things are ideal
500 degrees - been anywhere it's that hot lately?
Last longer than ordinary - needs to be qualified - what do they consider ordinary?
Compatibility - most are - if they're a quality product.

Opinion: It's probably a good product, but their claims are generic.

We have JBA's on ours and they recommend a certain grease, so we ordered a case of that grease, and for the drive shaft slip yokes and U-joints I use a different grease. Poly bushings like good grease that adheres and sheds water. Grease and grease guns are cheap insurance. BTW- I use the high moly green grease on my farm equip, it works well there.

Yeah, I've seen good things said about them on different forums, but, their website certainly comes across as cheap and does not inspire confidence in their product.

Alright, sounds like Green Grease is out. Sadly, it would figure that the Prothane grease DK specifies for their bushings is around $40 a tube and not carried anywhere nearby. I'll hunt around today and see if I can find a similar (and hopefully much cheaper) substitute. I'm getting analysis paralysis from researching all of these different greases that people recommend.

*laughs* I guess I should've just bought the JBAs instead!

While I don't doubt their product, I know from past experience years ago that when poly bushings start to squeak its a pain to get them to stop. Whether it's the frequency of greasing(which was not my case) or the quality or composition of the grease used. Silicone based greases seem to keep poly bushings quiet and lubed. JBA recommended a Mobilgrease XHP 222 special grease, the whole case of 14 oz. tubes was $42.00, I imagine it would work on your UCA's with the poly bushings.

Prothane is a PTFE silicone grease. And like Jeff said above, silicone grease is best for Polyurethane bushings because it stays on and is not washed off easily. You can get PTFE silicone grease much cheaper. This is some that's more reasonably priced and probably at your local auto supply store.
