I have a pretty much fully loaded 2017 Limited 4x4 that I bought a couple years back, but I find myself wanting to modify toward the look of the TRD or SR5, and I'm not going to lie - I went with the Limited because I 5000% want butt warmers and a 3rd row.

In adding up the cost of the mods I want to make (trade running boards for nerf bars, reduce the chrome trim showing, maybe change out the wheels, etc), I'm wondering if I should just sell it and trade into a SR5 Premium with a 3rd row or something that comes with the look I like, and add after-market seat heaters to check that box. What would you do?

There is a member on here that has a limited but made cosmetic changes to the different front fascia, etc. It came out very nice.

IMO Its a tough decision. While 2021 has new tech with Toyota Safety Sense, new Infotainment system etc.. For sure you can get a TRD ORP (without KDSS - personally don't like it) with all offroad tech and build it with good suspension, tires, skids to an amazing tourer / weekend adventure rig. OffRoad Premium has seat warmers but no ventilated seats.

I have put a minor Lift on mine and got 17in TRD wheels and 285s.

Main reason for the Limited for me is its full time 4wd system. No other trim can offer that. Limited A-trac & DAC is pretty capable. If you need lockers there are after market lockers you can intall not only rear you can get both front and rear lockers. I haven't find my self seeing crawl control working better than a-trac. It could change if I face it.

I haven't had a chance to test the safety sense on newer 4Runner so not going to say anything about that. However I do not like the new infotainment system. I was able to use the steering controls to control everything on infotainment system on my older Limited with JBL. Simple as I was able to move the play position on a song vs on my 2021 TRD I can't do that. The arrow keys on the steering move the center dash screen. Left buttons can only use as volume control and skip to next song. I feel like older headunit sound quality is better than newer headunit.

As for the 3rd row many dislike it but I'm a big fan and wish there is an option to get 3rd row in TRDs as well. Really really nice to have when you want to take your office buddies to happy hour or lunch hour or something like that.

Again see how do you feel your self test driving a new.

BTW @Daytonaviolet has a really good build converting Limited to TRD exterior. Wheels & tires, bumper, trim panels, etc..

Just FYI - you can get a 3rd row and heated seats in the SR5 premium from the factory. Would not need to be after-market. The 2021's also get keyless entry, push to start, and the updated infotainment w/ carplay etc.

Giving me HOPE! This is killer. Exactly what I want to do - maybe with some alternate parts. I like the creature features, too :D I'll spend some time in that link. Did you need any specialty tools to get this done? Mind if I ask roughly how much you invested in the mods? I feel like this is a path I'm going to start down and wont know when to stop...

I used basic garage tools. Only specialty tool I used was the spring compressor for the kings threaded body.

Price depends on how much you do yourself. I did everything myself except the paint. Also depends if you source used or new parts. Most of my parts were new except the trd/Sr5 crash bar. Btw I have my crash bar fs as I now have C4 low pro winch bumper.

bumper conversion doing myself was less then $1k. New bumper, paint, used crash bar, new fender liners, misc clips & fasteners, replica grille ..etc

I'm fortunate enough to have a gearhead brother-in-law, so I do have some access to specialty tools where needed, so that's good to know. In researching your parts you listed out, I'm cringing a little on the TRD Suspension price tag. I have small kids, so my version of "off-roading" is more like driving on the beach or over some rough-but-relatively flat terrain. So my question is: do I *need* that suspension to get the TRD look? I dont yet understand how the suspension transition plays with the cornfed spacers, and which does exactly what... :help:

As for suspension, there are many options. Kings is on the higher end. You can use your existing suspension and add spacers. Else add a simple lift like Bilsteins 5100.
