Hey. I'm moving over from a 2018 Raptor that was pretty heavily modified at least in regards to off-road capability, not engine performance. The engine was essentially stock except for some blow-off valves. I don't think I'm going to miss much going from the Raptor to the 4Runner, I ordered a lunar rockpro that arrived today and I will be picking it up in a few days. The only thing I will miss will be the 4-wheel Auto setting, And the power & torque. What are you guys doing to make this engine more powerful if anything? I tow a Can-Am Side-by-Side that's a couple thousand pound plus the trailer. It's well under the 5,000 pound limit for the 4Runner but I'm worried is just going to drag it down without any torque. And I'm used to 450 horsepower and over 500 pounds of torque. Just looking to see if there's a good way to get anything out of it easily? Thanks for any help in advance.

Big difference, and the adjustment won't be easy. Just understand this. The Runner will let you know how well it can do things. If you give it a chance. First and foremost.......it's not a Raptor. Be patient, give it time and it will grow on you. jm2c

Totally different vehicles. The runner will stay away from the dealership.
The Magnuson, AFAIK, not compatible with the 2020+.

I stepped out of my Viper Truck, and into the 4-Runner with no problems. I do kinda miss the power sometimes. But it’s all good.

    Welcome to the forum!

The above mentioned supercharger is pretty much the only way the 4Runner is ever moving fast.

Otherwise, take your time, and enjoy the slowness. :turtleride:

OP there's no notable performance mods for the 4Runner outside re-gearing. I came from a F150 ecoboost and it sucked at first, then I took it off road and forgot about the power. I wanted a Supercharger and was disappointed it didn't work for the 20+ due to a chance in the ECU, but now I'm actually no longer interested in it. Took about a year for me to forget how good that turbo is.

Cold sweats, swear words, panic. The withdrawl sucks, but you'll make it through.

I made the switch from a hemi with the 8 speed. The lust for power disappeared rapidly once I fully realized this car is on a different level in terms of reliability and durability.

Pedal Commander. Best $300 you can spend for daily driving improvement.

Everything in between the Pedal Commander and a Super Charger will just be expensive noise makers that offer negligible results (many times as the expense of bottom end).

It's easy. Sell the 4Runner, pick up another Raptor (or even better, a TRX). Problem solved :D

    Power, Reliability, Efficiency.

My personal opinion is you get two of those, with the third being the trade off. I’ve yet to see a car that nails all three.

I hope you switched from Raptor to a 4runner because you wanted reliability right? If you try to modify the powertrain and try to get more power you might end up in the same reason you sold the raptor.

I don't know, I personally don't even like to use throttle response devices. No way I will think about superchargers on my 4runner.

If you're looking for speed and power look elsewhere.

If you're looking for reliability and longevity, then you've come to the right place.

I left an F-150 5.0 that absolutely screamed but I wouldn’t go back to a pickup. It’s everything already mentioned as well as just a real fun vehicle to drive. I’ve even decided I don’t need the Pedal Commander. Just ride along with the radio blasting and enjoy. You won’t even miss it.

Even the new F-150 Raptor's do not have the V8 anymore and from some friends so they anyway its not a fast, does not have that classic rumble sound etc. My buddies opinion is he wish he got the big V8 when it was offered. That Dodge TRX looks sweet but for that money and the history Dodge reliability that is not for me.

With the move to hybrids/electrics I think the old school noise we all like from exhaust and engine are disappearing. Maybe I am getting old though now in my 40's and its just what I grew up with and associate with "cool".

As an example, I think putting the Mustang badge on the 4 door "Mach E" was a mistake, but that is just my opinion. Maybe the millenials will buy it and that is the target market.

I do love the launch of the electronics

No I have had zero reliability issues with my Raptor. But looking to get out from under the big payment, is a fully loaded version. Something more practical. Plus it's pricing out at 20k more than I owe for private sale. So it's a payday as well.

Yeah that’s not a bad reason. I could sell my power wagon and make money too but I love the thing.
