    Yes I agree, but it's good to hear from an actual Toyota mechanic.

    We had cam tower oil leaks on our 5.7 Sequoia. Thankfully it was still under warranty when I noticed it.

    It took the mechanic at the dealership nearly a week to fix it. They had to completely tear the engine down. We haven't had any problems ever since. They did a good job.

    That was a great video. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the rest of the series. Definitely no regrets in dropping my Bronco reservation and buying a 4Runner instead.

    Me too,

    A lot of his videos focus on Toyota hybrid passenger cars, so the fact that he is doing a deep dive into 4Runners is nice.

    At around the 9 minute mark he talks about why the oil filter is positioned where it is, as part of the oil cooling system. It makes you wonder if all the topside oil filter relocators are making a mistake by messing with it.

    I was wondering the same thing. I like the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

    I consider myself a pretty good mechanic but I don't think that qualifies me to second guess an automotive engineer.

    Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
    I just watched these yesterday! Yeah, makes me even happier with my choice. I'm sure this vehicle will outlast me and I'm OK with that. One of my grand daughters will inherit it.

    Yes, they do. And for good reason. Remember the Boeing 777 with Rolls Royce engines that landed short of London because of ice in the fuel.

    As far as the 4Runner, this is good thinking. When off-roading or in 4WD-Lo there is not going to be much air flowing in the front of the truck.

    I honestly don't see any downside to relocating my filter up top (hopefully finishing this project today). I'm keeping the oil cooler so what's the issue?

    I dunno. Less distance between filter to pump to cooler? Less restriction, better oil flow, straight shot, more cooling efficiency?
    I don’t think the Toyota engineers made the decision just to aggravate us every oil change.

    But every vehicle filter change is kind of a PIA. My 3rd Gen filter was accessible under the driver wheel well, but it always leaked some oil over the engine when it was unscrewed and it required a load of rags and solvent to clean it all up.

    Let us know how it all works out. Maybe keep an eye on whatever OBDII temperatures you can before and after for comparison. And take some photos. :thumbsup:

    KDSS is the way to go if you can find one.

    Good videos but couple of things re KDSS is not really correct. 1, KDSS doesn't do squat for nose-dive. 2. He mentions something about every time taking the shock you have to drain the KDSS fluid. It sounds like he is talking about the KDSS sway bar "shocks" which I'm guessing are the KDSS cylinders. AFAIK the KDSS fluid never has to be drained or added back unless there is a problem with the system. Not really sure what he means by "every time taking the shock" This whole part is kinda confusing. 4:50-5:10.

    Rick. Most guys are suggesting to use fluid Film and have it sprayed on annually

    I wish AMD would have given guidance on oil based such as fluid film versus rubberized undercoating etal.

    Better yet I wish Toyota offered an option for an under coated frame.

    Hmm let me choose $700 option for undercoated frame versus Paint film or and some arm rest safe. Would be much easier to do at factory

    Yes, I don't understand why Toyota doesn't take more precautions treating the frame knowing that it is the weak point on this vehicle.

    It seems like it would be so easy during manufacturing.

    Toyota is said to be constantly evaluating their products and practicing continuous improvements.

    Why would they not improve rust prevention with the frame?

    I noticed when mine was new, the frame paint had good coverage but there were several small areas on the welds where the paint didn't completely cover.

    I looked at several other 4Runners on the lot and they were the same.

    Fortunately I live in the desert so corrosion really isn't an issue.

    My 97 Tacoma after 21 years had a solid frame with no rust.

    Their lawyers may be telling them to big of a move would be akin to admission of guilt as it relates to pending frame rust issues. Just a WAG, but it likely wouldn't come as a surprise to a fly on the wall.
