locking rear differential

Hello everyone, I'm new here, and don't have a lot of experience in offroad modifications. I just got my 2001 sr5 4Runner. It's a two wheel drive, and I would like to switch over to a rear locking diff. What all will I need to change to do so? Do I need to switch out the axle, the computer, purchase a diff locker, what all needs to be done to accomplish this task.

 

Look into ARB Air lockers. Best quality locker out there and you can run the On board air to air up tires and run air tools.

 

For you the best way to do this is either ARB as said above or do Alot more labor and swap axles with one that is a factory elocker. Now you will need everything up to the switch. For your set up I would just dave and run a ARB or just buy a 4x4 runner.

Cheapest would be a Aussie locker ... They work great had 1 in my 94 pickup

 

Thanks guys, I took it out today and really tested its limits for the first time. Surprising how well it did for 2wd. I already ordered my toggle switch to do the Andy mod, and fully disable traction controll.

 

nice Runner , just curious why u didn't get a 4x4 in the first place? An auto locker could be considerably cheaper than a selectable , and you could probably install it yourself in your driveway , check out Lock-Rite ....

I previously drove a lowered car and just wanted an suv to do fun stuff. I used to have a 03 4x4, but for the money I had , the buying price was right, and the lower insurance was nice too. It's my daily so I don't want to get TOO CRAZY with it, but I still want to do cool shit lol

My previously driven 03 4x4 runner and H3, the h3 wasn't an off road driven vehicle as you can tell
