Gettin' Falken Wildpeaks 275/70R 17's installed (whenever they show up at the store). 4R has a 1" front spacer, rear is stock. 2018 SR5. No body armor and no heavy mods are planned.

I have seen the "chalk test" vids, but was curious what you guys are running on the hi-way for PSI in your 275's?

This info is very helpful. I have '96 Silverado (you wouldn't believe it's a Wis truck, very little rust )with Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor, 10 ply sidewall, and I run 50-52 psi in those. Hence my question on what you guys run.

According to the tire pressure genie, an LT 275/70/17 should be run at 41 PSI on our trucks. I would start there and adjust as needed.

FWIW, I ran LT/C 265's at 35 and was happy with the results, so it's worth experimenting. I definitely wouldn't go below 32 on the road, though. FWIW, I'm on LT/E 295/70/17's and run 35 PSI on the road, and probably going to vary from ~12-25 off-road.

BFG KO2 275/70R17 Load E - 36 PSI Cold. This was the sweet spot after a couple weeks of "testing." Originally the tire shop had them set to 50PSI, which made it feel like I was driving on tiny rocks all day.

Now if I can only get rid of this steering wheel shimmy above 55mph...

52 psi on my stock Duelers (LOL ok not really, but that WAS the psi when I took delivery. I actually drove like 800 miles at that pressure until I finally checked to see if the dealer had set them up properly -- doh!)

ATM they're about 37 cold, but only cause I'd set them to about 33 when it was like 20 somethin degrees outside. Door jam sticker thingy says they should be 32. I haven't noticed any problems at 37 (though I do have more steering correction than I'd like at highway speeds, which I've attributed to the thing being a big block of a truck etc etc, but prob also low-ish caster). Anyway I think I'll try them out at 32 and see if anything changes.

Note I'm not hauling anything especially heavy etc. Just normal on-road use...

Don't bother. Or, maybe I'm just dumb. I tried the chalk test on my 4Runner and it was a big waste of time. No matter what pressure I chose, the chalk wear was always the same.

You also just plain don't need to do it. The tire manufacturers and engineers have already figure this out for us. There's something called "Inflation Tables" that list the recommended/required pressure based upon tire size, type, and vehicle weight. For ALL LT tires, that number is ~39 PSI for the 4Runner.

Whoever started the myth that we need a "chalk test" for basic LT tires should be slapped. However, I could see that test coming into use if you're putting 40" mud tires on a vehicle.. that for some reason you plan to drive on the street.. lol.

Nitto Terra Grappler G2 LT265/70 17 E Rated on stock TRD-Pro: 43psi. Nitto provides a tire pressure chart for vehicle and Nitto tire sizes https://www.nittotires.ca/search-results?vid=148651 I find the G2s (43psi) provide much better handling on pavement than the former P-rated Terra Grapplers (32psi) that came on the new truck. The TRD-Pro suspension is tuned for running desert tracks, dirt roads and is somewhat soft. The soft suspension contributes to greater lean on curves. The stiffer sidewalls on the E-ratred G2 result in much less lean. This is very apparent on twisty mountain roads and steep, sharp downhill curves on fast interstates. The ride is a bit firmer on highways and quite a bit firmer/rougher off road. I would recommend against running these G2 E tires below 38psi on highways; five hours or so at 75mph is bound to weaken sidewalls and risk overheating and blowout, if not on one trip, then on subsequent ones. So far, I've run the G2s at 28-32psi off road; it helps a bit with rough ride and traction. I'll probably go a bit lower in future depending on road conditions. I chose to run the E tires out of concern over a flat tire in remote areas I often travel alone; I've often encountered sections of road/trail with sharp rocks. Gas mileage about same as P tires.

I have tried 32psi up to 39psi and I think the P size Standard load tires somewhere within lies the sweet spot.

I follow what it says on the door panel, even with bigger tires. I know people do differently but I feel the psi on the door is there for a reason based on vehicle weight, size and point of gravity, for safety.

The placard on the door post is for the proper pressures based on the wheels and tires the truck was first sold with. For anyone that makes any changes to the wheel size, tire size and type - the placard is no longer the standard. But it is your truck, and you and your families' lives - do what you think is best. However, I would suggest doing some research just in case you might be wrong.

Like @2Toys said, the door placard is for tires of the stock size and load range. Any tires that match OEM specs can be run at this pressure.

If you change size and/or load range, there's a handy calculator linked in post #8 that will tell you the appropriate new pressure. Some folks like to use a chalk test, or just experiment to see what works, but the calculator is the safest bet.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, LT tires need more air pressure than "P metric" or SL tires, even if they are the exact same size as OEM.

Any idea what is the reason LT285s have higher psi recommendation vs P285 have very low psi?

The PSI recommendations are mainly for Load Carrying Capacity. For an LT tire to have the same Load carrying capacity as a P metric, the pressure requirements are greater.
