I just got my Lunar Rock TRD Pro 4 weeks ago and had to wait April 8-9 to get wrapped in Xpel at this new shop in town. I got full hood, full fenders, bumper, and mirrors done. They even did my two grill pieces and outlined the lettering around Toyota, and threw in door cups.

I was super happy about having it done, beyond my expectations.

It's now been about a week. Tonight when I got home, I noticed some bubbles that haven't healed. When I ran my finger I realized they weren't going away. I found some weird darker coloured specks under the film (is this an imperfection in the paint itself?), dust and lint trapped in some places. My boyfriend said earlier he noticed that the door cup on my driver's side had a strand of hair (idk it might just be dust) half trapped in the film, half hanging out loose.

Luckily they did say "lifetime" warranty on their installation.
My question is, is it worth bringing this back to them or am I too picky? I paid $2000+ tax.
Also, I have a ceramic coating appointment April 23, which makes me more devastated that this wasn't done properly.
I have read that it's technically impossible to get this kind of work 100% perfect. And that say not to bring it back to the shop that did it...but I think there's only one other place in town lol. Help.

I would expect zero bubbles in mine. You can try giving it a couple more days to cure but if I had that done and after a few weeks bubbles are still there I’d go back. Sometimes it takes a while for all the bubbles to go away.

You're not being picky. You paid for a service, backed by a company, that takes pride in the quality of the installers they select to represent them. This is an abject failure. Plain and simple. Any installer worth their weight would know dog hair? and statically charged vinyl DO NOT mix.

    Here's info on the company.

    EDIT: From Expel site.

What If My Installation Was Done Incorrectly?
It is always best to contact your XPEL installer first and explain your concerns. We do our best to maintain a network of installers that stand behind their work. If after doing so, your installer cannot or will not address your concerns to your satisfaction, please contact our customer service team for assistance. They will get you in touch with the XPEL Representative for your area who will work to find a solution to the issue.

Sounds like the film was applied in a dirty environment.

People put ppf on really expensive cars around here all the time, and they usually last a few months up until a year before they start to look like crap.

Thanks everyone. I will try and contact the shop tomorrow. I may have been so stressed at the sight that I thought it was dog hair (and also knowing their dog hangs out in the shop). It's just lint, oops.
I went back to take some pictures and I noticed this... Can anyone identify this for me? I am really praying it's not a scratch. It looks like it stops where the film ends. I tried my best to take a picture.

Hard to say. Could be a chalk mark? Don't know why it would be there but?

What are all the white specs that appear in the photo? Are they under the film? Or is it nothing?

Yeah I'm not sure, I'll message them about that white mark too then.
Well in that picture, the white specs are just from dirty spring driving, haha.
While I'm at it, can someone identify these spots that are darker in colour under the film? It almost looks like it's glued to the film. I've circled it on the left and there's another spot at the top of the same thing.

Was paint correction part of your contract?

So I don't understand were you ceramic coating over the wrap? Is that standard practice? Seems like way overkill to me but hey whatever... Personally I would of invested in the ceramic and called it a day but it's your vehicle. ;)

Ceramic coating over a wrap is a relatively common practice, and while ceramic coating is a quality protectant, it doesn't hold a candle to the protection vinyl provides against chips and such. That's why some wrap the entire front clip. To each his own.

100% correctable. It needs to be redone, that's all. If there is any dust, lint, or colored specs underneath the film, the paint correction was not done properly! It is not nearly impossible to get it 100% perfect either. Thank goodness the ceramic wasn't done yet. Just take it back to them and have them take care of it, and you'll be good to go!

I had color correction with ceramic coating and Xpel film on the front of my truck installed at the same time. I think since my color is black (midnight) that it hides the slight imperfections in or under the film. I can see why you are upset about what you are seeing.

You would expect the service to include paint correction - especially at that price, as the typical person wouldn't even think about that sort of thing, but it is required for desirable results. Cars from the dealer come with rail dust, ship yard dust, factory dust, etc. etc. in the paint. It's no big deal to the 99%, but the 99% aren't getting new cars wrapped. They should at least inform the customer of the need for paint correction BEFORE wrap application. Further, the required skills for paint correction are vastly different than the skills required to install a wrap, so unless they are a diverse shop that offers various services, your "paint correction" results may be sub-par. Was this done to your 4Runner?
