Just bought a new roof rack for my TRD off road. Figuring out if this is an install I can do at home. My runner is a 21’. Do you have to mess with the headliner at all? That’s my main concern.

No depending on your roof rack pretty much most of them get bolted to the same spots the OEM is on some require drilling but most do not good luck

Ok awesome! My wife wanted the Pro rack, I would expect it to not need drilling.

Are you removing a rack or rails before the new install?

Yes we are taking off the original oem rails for this install. Any suggestions?

    Feel free to ask
Follow this guy’s advice when loosening the bolts. Reportedly, it’s mostly a problem when removing the Pro rack, but why risk having one of the retainers coming loose and falling down into the headliner?

I’d invest in some butyl rubber just in case. Better to not need and have than need and not have

We bought the Trd Pro rack for a killer deal. So just swapping out the original OEM sliding rack.

@newlife where would you recommend putting that sealant? Where the brackets are?

Around the areas your bolting through the roof. It’s just added insurance for no water leaks.

^ I wouldn't do that. It's not per the design and could have ill effects. I swapped my 2020 OE roof rack to the TRD Pro rack and have no leaks after 10,000 miles. The factory install is sufficient without adding more to it.

OP, take your time and use that suggested video.. remove the two bolts together.. clean up around where the stock rack was, etc. I think there is a Toyota published install guide.. search around and see if you can find it. IIRC, that's what I used. Too many mods at this point to remember all this stuff lol..

I had the trd pro rack before. It’s best just to use the oem trd pro hardware. It includes all the necessary washers. The bolts comes with lock-tire already applied. No need for anything else extra.

    here’s the install document.
