Method 316 + Wildpeaks

Stock Suspension. Method 316 Gloss Titanium. 265 Wildpeaks. I really like how it turned out and now I'm not sure if I need to add a lift just yet. Hopefully I can wait out this whole "backorder" conundrum we're all living through.

I am rubbing up front on full lock in reverse on front fender and mudflaps...much to my dismay...guess I have some fender/mudflap modding to do. Also noticed a real "slight" increase in firmness with the wildpeaks which I liked. The runner does feel slightly sluggish with the heavier wheels and tires but nothing major.

Considering Wildpeaks from the stock highway-ish tires myself. You're rubbing on stock tire size though? Is it the wheels or the tires that's causing that?

 

The tires are stock size 265/70/17. I believe it's the wheels that are causing the rubbing. The Method 316 are 0 offset vs. the stock snowflake wheels at +15 offset (from what I've read online). I don't have exact measurements of the wildpeaks vs. stock Duelers but my guess is the rubbing is primarily caused by the more aggressive offset from the wheels. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys! Noise is minimal. Like any move from a stock touring tire to an A/T tire some noise is expected. Others on the forums have noted similar comments of minimal noise from the wildpeaks. I did have Toyo Open Country ATII on my previous 2012 and the noise level is about the same. Can't complain with either. While I don't have many miles of experience on my new wildpeaks, it sure feels great on the highway. You also can't beat the price for similar A/T tires and performance. Others I considered were the Toyo ATIIIs (didn't like the sidewall), Nitto Ridge Grapplers (apparently on backorder), and the KO2s but heard some were displeased with the rain/wet performance.

 

I love the look of the WildPeaks - sad that they're rubbing on you. I may stick with stock wheels for a bit for this reason.

 

I am surprised that a stock sized tire would rub!

 

My stock wildpeaks have the same rubbing issue with method 305s and zero offset. Only on the front passenger side at full lock, when backing up. Why do we think that is?

 

Probably a dumb question considering how often I see this: "rubbing at full lock, when backing up", does this mean when the steering wheel is fully turned to the left or right?

 

That's how I'm interpreting it. As for the reason why, I'm guessing there's either a difference in the wheel backspace and/or offset from stock OR it may simply be that the tire profile near the edge is wider than stock.

 

Yes, it's all about the backspace/offset. If you read through a lot of previous posts, you'll hear others comment on how significant wheel offset can have, even with stock sized tires. Even if you have a lift, there are still rubbing issues as you go more negative offset and larger tires. It's all part of the game.

Check out this post where a guy is running the same Method 316 wheels, but with stock size BFG KO2s instead of the wildpeaks. He noted no rubbing at all.

The other option is to go with the TRD SEMA wheels. You'll be moving from the stock +15 offset to what I believe is +4 offset of the SEMA wheels. With 265/70/17 wildpeaks, you probably won't rub. Going to Methods or other wheels with 0 offset (or worse with negative offset) is probably where you get rubbing with stock size tires.

 

When my steering wheel is full turned to the left and backing up. However not when fully turned to right when backing up. That’s what I find weird.

Is that the spot where a BMC is required to allow 285's on most 4R's. Always interesting that some claim to have 285's on stock set up with no rub and a 265 Wildpeak will rub - perplexing!

Getting really close to pulling the trigger on a Pro which has a 1" higher front and the narrower TRD SEMA wheels. I would hope it would easily allow a 275 without rubbing.

Do the fender liner mod, push your caster up to 3.5 degrees or so and you'll avoid rubbing the mudflap.

 

You'll probably be fine since the Pro comes with the fender liner mod from port.

If you do have any rubbing, it would most likely be on the mudflap........which can be fixed with an alignment in this scenario.

that color combo looks great! did you have the factory tpms removed from the stock wheels and swapped over to the 316s? any issues with installing them?

Yes, factory tpms transferred to the methods with no issues. You can always buy new tpms sensors if you want.

 

Just pulled the trigger and ordered the exact same setup for my 16 SR5.

Stoked! How have you liked the setup so far? Really crazy to hear they're rubbing with a stock size....

It's the aftermarket wheel. These things are incredibly sensitive to changes in wheel backspace or offset. With the stock wheel, most likely they would not rub.

 

What is everyone running? LT tires or passenger rated?
Still trying to decide on that for my next tires.

 

I'm running passenger rated on mine, stock size. The jump in weight to the E Rated was fairly large in the tire that I have, and I didn't think it was worth it.

Maybe if this was strictly an off-road vehicle, or if I carried a lot of weight I would have went with the E Rated. I used to wheel my old Grand Cherokee on P Rated, in the rocks, and I never had any issues.

Personally I think E is overkill for a daily driver.

 

I have the exact same wheels with Continental Terrain Contact AT in 265/70/17 size sitting in my garage now. Did you have to use centering rings on the Method wheels? 3 of my wheels came with rings. Waiting for a ring to be sent by Method wheels. My tires are less aggressive than yours. Also, I have a TRD sport which doesn't have mudflaps. Do you think my front wheels would rub on full lock?

 

Finally got the Method wheels mounted. Tires are Continental TerrainContact AT in 265/70/17. No rubbing on stock suspension.

This is the exact same setup I think I want on my 4Runner. Would spacers eliminate the rubbing problem? I saw on TrailBuilt Off-Road's YouTube/Instagram that they ran the same setup fully stock with no rubbing.

 

Are these wheels matte black or the titanium color. Have the same paint color 4r and trying to decide what color wheel to go with. Thanks.
