What would you pay???

I have the lead on a 2000 4Runner SR5 with 80,000 from one owner. Its clean and the dealer knows it is $13,900 too much for this?

KBB is of no use - everyone knows the market for these is considerably higher than book value. But what is the real market value?

 

The real market value is whatever a person is willing to pay. It's that simple. If, it fits your wants, needs & wallet. Then you have to decide if it's time to pull the trigger. imo

It's the haggle time I don't have much input with I'm first in line for the vehicle but by no means am the only person in line.

 

Well then..........it's decision time

 

A low mileage 20 year old vehicle is still going to require maintenance. Things will break. If my rig was wrecked and I was looking for a replacement, *I* would pay that but I do all my own maintenance.

The big question is if it has rust. 80k in the rust belt can still be a death sentence.

 

Depends where you are. If your in California, or maybe even Oregon, it sounds a bit high of fair but not far off for a vehicle with that mileage. Though like others pointed out, its 20 years old.

A majority of the money I spent on my slightly older 4runner with double the miles wasn't related to miles, but instead age. The radiator was old and brittle, the tires were and still are old and need to be replaced. The only items replaced from wear are what you would expect, clutch, brake pads, fluids, things that you could have to replace on a vehicle with 80,000 miles.

Cosmetically miles do matter. But a lot of people chop off the stock bumpers and take them off road, so your not using your money wisely looking for the best cosmetic example if your going to ruin it by beating it off road and removing stock items. Rust is a consideration, but it is something that happens with time- not miles. Park a brand new 4runner outside for 20 years, it will develop rust too.

If you want to save yourself trouble buy from the owner who seems the most responsible about maintaining their vehicle. One owner is good, but its more important that the person looks after their shit- its less work for you, but it might cost more too.

Also the season matters, 4runners sell for more during the summer. We are getting to that time of year when people start going outside and more are looking to buy a camping rig. I paid significantly more because I bought my 4runner during the summer months.
