Did a little cleaning on the 99. My friend down the street luckily had a MYTEE carpet cleaner and it did wonders. Still some coolant stains and the 20 year old carpet lining smell is still present but step in the right direction!

Added a can of “BG”. Cheapest I could find it was $20 each and it’s selling for upwards of $40. Got to be good for that much doe. And they don’t carry it at most auto stores?

2000 Toyota 4 Runner Limited ARB OME FULL EXPEDITION is a highly modified off road vehicle built up on the reliable and bulletproof 3rd generation Toyota 4Runner. I bought the truck in Florida and drove it North. The suspension and tire upgrades maintain the excellent original ride characteristics of the 4Runner while greatly extending the off-road capabilities of the already very capable 4Runner. The BFG KM tires are super smooth and get the job done in any terrain. They are probably the best off-road tire in the market. The ARB Awning is a must for any overland/expedition vehicle. It is super rugged and opens and closes easily. No rust anywhere. 3.4l 24v V6. New ARB Expedition Winch Bumper, Old Man Emu Suspension, New Smittybuilt 9500 lb Winch, Recent BF 285 70 17" BF Goodrich All Terrain TA Tires on ICON Vehicle Dynamics Wheels , Roof-Rack, ARB Awning, Driving Lights. New timing chain, AC module, Transfer Case, New Kenwood Blue Tooth Audio System. Tan Leather, Sunroof, Rear window opens (last year available)
Got the Truck ready to tow for the trailer season. Oil Change, Tires rotated, Tow hitch cleaned and adjusted. This is the setup with Awning and Screenroom.

Well, the woodgrain plastic center console on my 2000 4runner Limited was busted into literally 13 larger pieces around the vents, prior owner had pieced it together, apparently in-place, with some sort of silicone sealant, couple small pieces the size of the tip of your little finger missing, and i got tired of looking at the mess. Replacement used woodgrain ones on ebay are around $300, black ones are $150-200, a tad outrageous. I pulled the old one off, cleaned off all the gunk, puzzled it back together with Gorilla superglue gel, sanded down when dry, two light coats of Rust-oleum black Trim and Bumper paint, resanding between coats, and a final sanding and final paint coat. Same sanding and paint for the shifter surround too. Surprised that the paint is so tuff and sticks to the sanded surface so well. Not perfect, but better than it was, and matches the e-brake surround pretty close; looks much much better. FYI, cover the clock window with painter's tape or something, both sides, because you will get glue on your fingers, and the stuff fumes as it cures, can mess up/fog the window without knowing it till after the fact.
That little chore took a couple evenings after work, between glue curing and sanding and paint drying and sanding and wiping down and final paint coat, so I decided to play with the non-functioning clock. Unclips from bezel, two screws holds it together, mine did not have the little pills in top of the springs, just had the springs themselves on posts that stick through the circuit board, springs make electrical contacts with the bottom of the circuit board. Minor stretch of the springs, scraped and cleaned the circuit board spring contact points with the tip of a small sharp knife, and what do you know, it works. We will see for how long.
And if you have to drive your Runner while this is a work in progress, like i said, took me a couple of days working evenings after work, plug the emergency flasher into its wiring harness plug (it unclips from bezel), or your turn signals will not function. And the 20 yr old plastic is brittle, the tabs where the vent extensions clip into the bezel will break if you try to remove the extensions, but I had no choice, just expect it and don't get bent, superglue or silicone here works wonders, lol. Cost for paint and glue and sandpaper was less than $20.

I've undertaken to rebuild my new (original 270k) 5vzfe. The previous owner had some white smoke in the exhaust and there are clear signs of coolant leaking near the intake manifold. I have a Haynes guide and Worse than chiggers on youtube and am almost down to the heads.

I have evidence of the/an issue.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
What I did today to my 2 Runners: Lowered my insurance by $95.00! Didn't change the coverage in the slightest, either. The 99 has full coverage, comprehensive, collision, glass, etc, etc.
I just told them to check my credit score, which has improved a great deal due to my lovely wife's extremely capable management of our money. The insurance company hadn't checked my credit score in 15 years. I could hear the "representative" grinding his teeth from here :D

I don't know if this qualifies under the heading of the thread, but it's what I got accomplished. I think it was important to me!

I just replaced mine a couple of weeks ago! It made a world of difference.
Not expensive, not difficult to change, with the help of my lovely wife. She has MUCH smaller hands than I, with long, strong, fingers to reach into those slender areas my fat mits won't reach into. I broke the nuts on the clutch loose, she unscrewed them. Without dropping a one!

Anywho, I wonder if that's a known failure point on the 3rd gen 4Runners. It seems like I hear about it happening a lot. Maybe it's just a normal, high-time failure.

    Good luck!

Just ordered Metallica, Master Of Puppets album on cassette. It’s hard to recreate the quality of sound I’m getting from my stock Japanese deck with Japanese speakers and I guess there’s an amp/crossovers somewhere. But the vocals and full range of sound is incredible!!!:headbang:

I replaced mine last year along with a full coolant flush, I was really relieved when it immediately resolved mine running hot.

Yesterday, I got under my 99, barely (no, not my stomach, believe it or not, my chest. Barely fit under the fuel tank and exhaust system), and lubed up the drive lines. Can't overdo the drive line lube. Extra will just get slung out, usually onto the bottom of the truck. Hardest part was moving the truck inches to make the drive line turn to place all the grease-zerts where I could reach them.
Once again, thanks to my lovely wife for her work on the park brake!

I always wind up with moly grease up to my shoulders, somehow, but I got it done! Then, I had to get a wad of paper towels to clean off all the spots I touched. It seems like I lubed 3/4 of the upper parts of the truck, just with accidental touches by my greasy hands. Inside door frames, under door handles, on top of the hood, on the tailgate, you name it, somehow, I touched it. Tht grease seems to spread itself around without human intervention, somehow.

Out of idle curiosity, are there other places than the drive line, that get lubed regularly, like they had on the first gen trucks? Like on my 87's, there are grease-zerts on the top of the a-arm, I think it's called. Right behind the tire. Upper and lower ball joints? Is that what they are? Anywho, I didn't have a chance to do much looking around while I was under the truck yesterday. Are there any places like that that I need to give a shot of moly to? I didn't see anything in the FSM...

    have fun!
