Hello, I am new to the forum, good to be here.

I am currently trying to swap out my SR5 front grille for the TRD PRO Grille on my 2017 4Runner. I could go with OEM but it's like 3X the price. Theres a lot of online non-OEM TRD PRO grille kits available from many different stores. I am trying to find the best non-OEM grille kit available (or cheapest OEM). If anybody has had really good luck from a specific online store, it would be great to know which one.

    Thanks!

I had a good experience with the one from MC Auto parts. I liked that I could pick from different letter colors. I would say to pay close attention to mounting it with the 3M double sided tape. I ended up have to reapply it, with twice as much tape, and thicker, to get it to stick. Mine had the cut out for TSS, but I still had to cut some material for the center brace. Also make sure to use some heat, unless you live on the surface of the sun like I do in Arizona. The last 4 inches of the name garnish on both sides, need to bend a bit, and its easier if its warm and pliable. Enjoy!

Quick question. The front bumper chin is white and I want to go black with it as well to match the TRD PRO grille. The SR5 bumper is one piece at the bottom with no separate valance. Do you know if there is anyone who makes a black valance bumper cover that would fit over it, or are my only options to plastic dip or wrap it black?

You can add the TRD front valence to your SR5, however it will require quite a bit of effort because you'll need to affix the clamps to your bumper that hold the valence to it.

Thanks for the help! Yeah, I need to figure out if thats the route to go or just get it wrapped to match the TRD garnish. Do you have any experience affixing the mounts for the lower valance?

Definitely recommend 4Runner Lifestyle as well. I have an SR5 and did a plastidip on the lower bottom valance. Costs about $10 for the can and is super easy to do.

I do not. For the rear valence, I believe there is a template stamped into the rear of the bumper cover, so it's easy to find where to drill holes so that you can mount the clips. I plan to do this eventually as my Venture did not come with a rear valence. That said, I'm not sure if the front has the template "built in" like the rear, or not.

You can buy the valences at a dealership and just cut the clips off and then attach with strong tape (and the front plate holder if you have one). This is what I did on my SR5 before I got the TRD. I followed these steps: https://trail4runner.com/2019/02/22/trd-off-road-valance-swap-5th-gen-4runner/ The rear valence is more tricky, as mentioned in the linked article.

Another option would be just to straight up paint or plastidip the valence area. It would be much quicker and easier. I would imagine it would look about the same as installing a valence, probably slightly less visually appealing if anything.

    Hi stann

Did it already have the cut out for TSS? That's weird it says it won't fit on the TRD Off Road Premium model. I even emailed 4runnerlifestyle and they told me that I would need to trim it myself to make it fit.

That doesn't make any sense, as the differences between the OR & ORP are interior details, and have nothing to do with the grille.

yes it’s precut for the TSS and as mentioned by glwood, no exterior differences between OR and ORP

Did you remove the valance to plastidip it or tape it off?

Here's the email reply from 4runnerlifestyle on why it won't fit on a 21 TRD Off Road Premium:
The issue is the off road premium has either to many or to little inserts for the amount of clips on our grilles. We have had some customers buy it and trim it to make it work and we've had some customers buy them and they just fit perfect its just sort of a luck of the draw.
    Hopefully this helps!

@Rock-N-Roll I taped around the valances. But, it would be a lot easier to take off the valances. Of course, I did it the hard way!! LOL

See I was thinking the tape might be easier. I'm always afraid I'm going to break tabs or clips. I'll have to look up the removal procedure. Thanks!

The lettering came preinstalled? It says on their site it does not. That would be a bonus for me, as I'm sure id screw it up.

Ah, then maybe they don't do it anymore to save time and meet the higher demand. When I bought time in February, the letters were already installed. Pretty much the main reason I went with their product.
