Noticed while swapping my rims in the rear these bolts sticking thru the rubber coating in my wheel Wells on both sides. Is this an issue?

That seems pretty weird to me. Have you been doing any work in the cargo area? It almost seems like something got installed with bolts that were too long.

no work in the cargo area. All I’ve had done was suspension work. I’ve had the vehicle for less than a month.

I would try to figure out what's on the other side of that bolt. Do you do any high speed off-roading? I'm very curious what's going on.

Vehicle hasn’t been offroad yet. I got it on March 5th. Then it went to the shop
For 2 weeks for tint, ceramic etc. nothing I did caused this, it came from the factory like this. I noticed it several weeks ago when I first got it but decided to ask about it now lol.

Possible rear seat mounts that got threaded in way too much? That’s a first for me to see bolts coming out from that area.

not sure tbh. However, I’m just concerned about my tire flexing enough and making contact with the bolt.

I would also be concerned about water and mud collecting in there and causing rust. I would take it back to the dealership, personally.

On a related note- that black stuff on my 2018 is coming off. It’s like powdery now and just wipes off with any sort of contact. It’s super weird. Like it’s dried out and falling off.

I’ll check tomorrow to see if I have the same bolts as OP. I think I do, but they’re covered in the black stuff.

My brand new truck also had the "flap" of that rubber, that was obviously at one time surrounding the end of one bolt, hanging off. It fell off quickly and I, too, have an exposed bolt.

This was while I was still enjoying the new car high and was ignorant to how Toyota can be.. so I thought "They surely must be aware that this happens so it must not be an issue."

    Now, I wonder.

Honestly, if I do anything at all, I'll find my own "spray on rubber" or something along those lines and coat it myself. That will cost me less $$ and headache than going to the dealer for this.

I'm going to have to look at mine now. I was thinking if it were me, I would grind the bolt down and hit it with some Flex-Seal.

Lol! That's the exact thought I had!

We don't usually have catastrophic failures like Ford, Chevy, and Dodge, so we are able to notice the little things like this. ;)

This is a bummer to read. Just got my production date today.

Does anyone have an email for the plant manager over there and I can send them a note and ask them to maybe use the proper size bolt and or cover it up?

Just noticed this on my 4 week old Venture. Curious if anyone has reached out to the dealership about the issue and what they say.
