CV angles are affected with lift, period. Differential drops (tilts?) have been recommended when that angle becomes extreme. But then, you're just taking some of the angle difference from your front CV axles and placing it on your front drive shaft.

    Good point,

Years ago I had a leaf spring break on my 97 Tacoma. The leaf spring shop made new ones. Initially, when they installed the new springs, my truck looked like a 1970's jacked up hot rod.

I made it about one block from the shop and turned around and went back. You could hear and feel the rear pinion groaning from the extreme angle.

They disassembled and decreased the spring bow and life was good after that.

So update on the diff drop issue. They obviously removed the diff drop which solved the vibration issue for a bit but it came back much worse. Apparently when the diff drop was in the drive shaft pinion barring was destroyed because it also dried out so I've had a rental for a week and they are replacing it I'm rethinking my decision on buying a dealer lifted runner I've had it for two months and they have had it in the shop 7 times. the sad part is the sales associate told me they have done this to 25 vehicles knowing its wrong.

Interesting I have a 18 and I have had a diff drop for almost it’s whole life 65k mileage with no issues. I do get the occasional drag slowdown, but no vibration or noise.

Who knows... mine did I have 2056 miles on it and the drive shaft pinion bearing is toast it was growling bad and was briefly solved by taking out the diff drop but the damage was done I suspect... not being the one working on it I don't know for sure for all I know they could be blowing smoke up my ass but at this point I just want it fixed its brand new and I'm over it

All I do know is I have a 2020 chevy colorado zr2 diesel lifted with 33s and I haven't had one issue but to be fair I did the lift myself and correctly not the stealership.

Holy bajeesus that's a tall lift! OK this makes a little more sense now. Leave the pre-running to the ZR2!! lol

Cool ZR2. It was between one of those and the 4Runner for me.. :)

Any updates OP? I signed up because I have a 21 ORP and put a 3 inch Toytec lift with diff drop and I just ordered my ECGS bushing. Had the vibes at about 40-45 mph since installing the lift and now I’m considering removing the diff drop, I put the lift on at about 2200 miles and have put 4K on since.

Also sub'd. I just put a 3" Toytec lift on my '21 ORP with the diff drop. So far I haven't had any issues. I think that I really got more like 2.5" of lift.

Stock - except Gen 3 4Runner badges on front doors!
I've posted on several areas on this site and 4Runner.org. 2021 stock Premium. After about 5K - 6K the sound was really obvious (passengers could hear it easily) - droning, cyclical. Dealer identified it as "mismatched gears" and replaced the front diff. When I picked it up they said THEY could still hear it. To me, it was different - not so droning but definitely had all the symptoms. Brought it back and was met with they "drove a 2022 with 15 miles and it made the same sound/vibration - not a defect."

NOW, the problem with that logic is obvious. They put in a TAS case, I called Toyota Customer Care twice - and have a case as well. Might this be time for all of us to report this to the BBB, State's Attorney's, Consumer Reports AND relentlessly pursue a fix from Toyota. There are many, many of us out there.

I sent the dealership the ECGS videos to which they replied "looks like a solution looking for a problem" and that the ECGS did not mention that it goes away in 4WD - to which I sent them the FAQ which states that explicitly.

I'm mad at spending more than I've ever spent of a vehicle (this is my 5th 4Runner, my first new) to have it have a glaring defect!!

I’m new to Toyota’s, love my 4 runner, but being known for so long to be very capable off-road how is it so damn hard to lift these things 1-3 inches while Jeep’s and other vehicles like chevys can go 3-6 inches and be just fine.

That's what's so disappointing about this issue. Toyota's ARE engineered so well, dependable beyond dependable. I had a friend who bought a Land Cruiser with 100,000 miles and correctly said, "It's tighter now than a Chevy is new." Toyota usually designs and manufactures to really tight specifications - except this sloppy gear and bushing! WTF! Beyond this I loved my 4th gens for 250,000 miles and hope to love my 2021 until I'm pushing daisies!

Interesting theories....I have a '19 SR5P with an approximate 3" King lift with diff drop and I can hear a whine in the front diff...but it was there when I drove it off the lot new.

I have a '22 ORP w/KDSS that I installed an approximate 3" King lift and I don't hear anything....but no diff drop (I bought it, but didn't install it). I'm thinking I may not put it in now.

That's bullshit. My '19 made the noise from new. Just because a new one sounds the same doesn't mean it's not an issue.

    Try another dealer if possible.

What's hard about lifting them 1-3"?

The only Jeeps that can be lifted so easily are probably the ones with solid front axles. It's not a Jeep thing, it's a solid front axle thing.

Which midsize Chevys can be lifted 6" easily?

Aside from all of this; if whatever you're doing requires a 6" lift, you probably should get a Wrangler, old Landcruiser, or something similar. The 4Runner can get pretty far off the beaten path even at stock height with armor and good tires.

I installed the ECSG at around 100 miles along with the 2" lift. Mine is now making the dreaded noise and harmonic vibration ever two seconds'ish. Switch to 4wd and its gone.

Since I installed it myself am I screwed if I go to the dealer for a "fix"
