Hello to all. I'm Jerry and I'm in the process of breathing new life into a neglected 2000 SR5. Unfortunately illness prevents me from doing the work myself so my son has stepped in to make the repairs. To date he has changed the following: the injectors, valve cover gaskets, plugs, hoses and driveshaft. A new radiator and clutch fan, timing belt/water pump and shifter bushings and fuel pump are next.

buy a newer runner. the 2000 runners have frame rust . another issue the rear diff have failures many did not change the drive train fluids and did not grease the drive shafts... old toyota will cost a lot of $$$ on parts ...
because you are not to do the repairs then buy a newer runner...

I appreciate the heads up but my truck has spent it's entire life in Florida. It has zero chassis rust. Having owned two auto repair shops I can say that high miles does not scare me. In addition, the truck is 2wd so it doesn't have grease fittings in the u-joints. When the time comes to replace the joints we'll do them ourselves.

well I have gone to florida in winter and I do not see many 4runners down there.. In my area in the rust belt many love it with 4WD and it runs great in a snow storm .. I drive my runner on the florida beaches works great in the soft sand.
I purchased my 2016 in July new.. I had to have a recall to replace the air bag.. I did not have any vehicle failures works good . 5th gen many like them .the 2000 models do have many forum members issues on your runner .. a lot of work to do . if you do a lot of fluid changes and flushing many on your runner will last around 350K miles ..
