Is yours a 2 piece drive shaft? Seems like the 2 pieces have a rubber piece that goes bad and I'm seeing a few people solve this issue with a new drive shaft.

A faulty injector can make the engine shake too but that's usually obvious at startup..

    Otherwise...explain the vibration...

Vibration felt through steering vibration? Feels like a shimmy?

    Rear vibration?

Shifting to neutral fails to help?

    Increases with car speed?

the ujoints fixed the vibrating severly...steering slack is minimal...it feels tight in the stering wheel...it wants to wander on the highway.....the gas pedal seems harder to push??...then again ive never drove it with a solid front end....bought a year ago....it does take bumps waaaay better and riding good. i just feels a lil squirrely in the steering wheel
2wd,,,no 2piece driveshaft,,,,in back of mind i worry i got the driveshaft off a tooth maybe??? i took ir out a couple of times and think i was on the right tooth i mande paint marks...when do you replace rack and pinion ,,,,symptoms?

    thank you both

Previous owner put 3" rough country lift.....yea changed rods and joints....and they all were completely shot ... figured I'd change the bushings on control arms and then go for alignment elsewhere,...so any thoughts on rack? How you know to change? When?
    Thanks

From the factory these things felt a little floaty at 80MPH+. Add in a 3" lift. 20 years of wear and tear. Even worse.

I have 2005 with 150,000 miles. I have no steering or vibrations like this op, but I crawled underneath several times to grab the driveshaft looking for any looseness, and no problems yet. Everything tight like new!

My car is in the bumpy roads of the Bahamas so these drive trains, bushings, etc. are Toyota tough IMO. Driveshaft looks heavy duty to me.

I had a DS on a GMC truck that I bought and sold fresh fish with and the DS flew off two time - and I owned the truck from brand new. The UJs kept failing because the dumb bell GM dealer had too much angle in the two part shaft. Idiots. GM Brands, Vehicles Do Poorly In Reliability Survey | GM Authority

GM builds and sells garbage. That's why they don't compete with Toyota, Honda or Ford products.

311,000 miles is a long way - even on a Toyota. Hope you post back with the solution. Can't believe an alignment shop can't solve the problem.

I buy only Toyota products after my experiences with GMs. My daughter says her 2015 Camry runs like new still; only 50,000 miles, but out in Denver where the roads are the worst!

Never owned a Ford product. The F 150 looks like a good old truck, though. They been selling them since WWII!

A bad front wheel bearing will cause your problem. Take the tires off and see if you can shake the wheels. Should be no movement = back and forth.
