Folded Rear Seat Back Strength ????

Haven't seen this addressed and am wondering if the seat backs are strong enough for access and egress through the passenger doors?

Or, do most who sleep in their rigs enter through the rear door?

The seat backs folded down, without seat cushions, don't have a lot of support and at 240# I don't want to spring/bend them.

Thoughts?

I generally climb in through the back, but exit through the side passenger doors.

 

Out of 71 visitors it looks like it's just the two of us.......

 

I use the doors and the hatch. Two of us and one small dog. Never had an issue and I am tipping towards 200lb with my woman around 125lb.
If you feel them bending, use a plywood cut to size and distribute the weight that way.
Edit: on long trips I also remove the lower portion of the back seat and build a small "table" to increase the length by about a foot; this way we don't touch the rear door or the front seats. It adds a lot to the quality of sleep.

 

I have stood on the folded seats to access the roof. No issues yet. Around 200# myself.

And, I've used the rear passenger doors to access for sleeping. But, I have a platform.

 

I’m pushing 280 and have already been crawling along the seat backs trying figure out the the best way in and out. I did so gingerly, but no indications of failure.

im thinking of making a platform too. Something for a twin size airmatress

 

There’s a recent thread in the other 4R forum where guys have loaded 400# of pavers in the back, and another guy loaded hundreds of pounds of drywall and lumber.

Crawling around and entry/exit through the rearseat doors can be any worse. I do it often but I’m less than 200#.

I crawl around in mine quite often since I hardly ever put the seats up, but i do have the 3/8” rubber truck bed mat in there, so that may help to distribute the weight a bit. I weigh 165 lbs. and my dog is 60 lbs. i have not had a problem with denting in the backs of the seats or anything. I have stacked about 300 lbs. of bagged rock on them with no problems.

 

Tell me more about the rubber bed liner, I like it. Did you cut it down? Where did you source it from? Are happy with it?

EDIT: I see you did trim it some.

 

I got it long so i could cut the length and have a nice size piece left to pull out for bumper protection from my dog jumping up. I will look for another pic to show you.



Here is the pic. as i recall it smelled like rubber for about 10 days, but i just pulled it out and left it in the garage for a bit.

Not to high jack the thread but eith regard to the dog jumping in....for those that don’t know weather Tec makes a cargo mat that has a snap in layer ther un folds to cover the bumper to avoid scratched and Knicks etal. I thought it looked neat. Only works without a cargo tray though. Not to high Jack just wanted to share

Never had an issue; we normally access the back to sleep via the side doors and not the hatch. I agree the seats feel "weak" but the actual weight on them as you enter / exit is probably not significant due to distribution. I personally wouldn't stand on them, though.
