Which running boards to order?

Trying to install some running boards. But having difficulty ordering some. Do I just buy Any that say are for a 97 4Runner ? Or does it have to be the ones with the three hooks?? Ive notice some online just hook up from the ends??? Any advice much appreciated.... Trying to get some nerf bars.... Thanks
