How's this for a long travel rear suspension solution on the 5th gen without having to cut holes in the cab?

Pretty sweet! This guy is reporting roughly 14.5" of rear travel.

Is that the wicked creations fj kit? They had a good deal on that, might still be active. Shocks were included. Only negative I read was tuning the shocks.

That is insane, very ingenious & gorgeous. I am jealous. I wonder how street manner would be different.

I'm thinking pillow, depending on the setup. But the sprung shocks would be preload and then there's compression speed and rebound, can you say ADJUSTABLE? Very cool setup. Is something like this meant for a certain class of offroad race?

The main goal is to get long travel out of your rear suspension.

In order to do that, you need longer shocks (and some other things).......but the 4Runner doesn't have any room for longer shocks unless you cut holes for them into your cab. You'll see a lot of tacomas with holes cut in their beds to accommodate longer shocks.

This cantilever set-up uses to cool geometry to fit longer shocks placed horizontally so you can achieve long travel without turning your body panels into swiss cheese.

Pretty cool stuff, especially for those of us that have an SUV with an enclosed cab!

There are alternatives, but I think the travel is a little less than the cantilever system. This is an FJ modded with the hoops for the rear sus.
The spare has to be relocated with the cantilever, only a minor inconvenience in the over all scheme of things.

Geometry and Shock tuning is still something that I'm lacking in practical experience. My 03' V8 is getting about 10" of travel in the rear with the custom Kings and Califab links, and 10" in the front wit the TC mid travel. But I'm looking into other options. Daily driving a true LT system in a top heavy suv is another learning experience as well. That's where the dual set up with bypasses comes into play for the front suspension not having an ASB. My mid travel set up only has smoothie secondaries, and I've learned to deal with the outboard "lean" in hard corners. A full LT set gets exponentially worse. Stadium Super Trucks comes to mind with their 3 wheel cornering lol.
Tuning the cantilever system would definitely take quite a bit of testing, because most of the tuning baselines out there are for pickups with conventional leaf or 4 link set ups.. Now if you plan on just rock crawling, it would probably be a little easier tuning process. I would love to see someone document the process though.

That cantilever set up is sweet.
