Hi I have the “death shake” in my runner and can’t figure out the problem been to two different mechanics in my area it’s not any of my joints the wheels or the alignment had them all checked wondering if anyone has a knowledgeable mechanic that I could trust find the problem come on around over 60 mph and shakes the whole car feels like it’s comping from the center but I can’t really tell

Not pretending to know anything about "death wobble" in second gen 4runners but my daughters jeep did this and it ended up being the track/panhard bar. The bushings in the ends looked fine but we replaced them anyway and it fixed the problem. We fought with this problem for quite some time and finally started throwing parts at it and got it fixed pretty quick. Good luck hope this helps.

Is this triggered by bumps or just occurs on smooth road? Does the steering wheel vibrate back and forth noticeably when it happens?

No track bar on IFS, it's a very different animal from a solid axle Jeep

Has anyone checked to see if your tires are balanced? Some boneheads at 4 wheel parts balanced my 33s wrong when they installed them and it shook the whole truck when I went 60 mph. I went back and they still couldn’t get it right. Tried telling me it was my fault and tried selling me a bunch of BS I didn’t need. I’m a mechanic, I knew the front end was ok. I was unemployed at the time, so once I was back working at a shop, I balanced them and they were off by 4oz each! Yeah, sounds like your tires aren’t balanced or out of round so I would get that checked before diving into the suspension

You can grab the PS tire at 9 and 3 o'clock and look at the idler arm and see if it is wiggling in the housing that is bolted to the frame. Also look at the rag joint on the steering column.

finally got her running smooth ended up being a rim problem the whole time I guess the previous owner had made his own 6th lug nut whole to fit the rim only took 3 tires shops to figure that out and them trying to charge me to fix everything else I just got some stock rims off offer up for about 120 realigned and had the right lug nuts put on for 14 and now she's as smooth as ever had
