Most everytime I open my door/start my 4runner, the security alarm goes off (blinkers, horn, etc etc) now, the button inside wont disarm it apparently. It will make a ticking noise (not the motor as it wont even turn because of this) and I do not know what to do.
Should I remove the security system? If the system is triggered does it stop the engine from turning?

If it's aftermarket, I would definitely rip it out.

If it's factory/dealer installed, you could probably get it fixed by the dealer.

My daughter's 2008 Mazda3 had the Mazda security system. Mazda let dealers install them. I ripped it out. Made working on the car so much easier as the damn thing would go crazy if you so much as disconnected the battery.

I have the "Red Button" on the left side of my steering wheel. No Toyota branding...
When the alarm is tripped all of the lights (under shifter, behind gauges and odometer) all flash in synchronization. Anyone got any ideas?

they always cause problems, most probably that is the issue, talk to the dealer, see if they know anything about it, otherwise, you'll have to follow the wires :)

It’s gotta be connected somewhere. Follow the wires, I bet you it’s gonna get to the fuse panel

On my Mazda there was a wiring harness connector at the ignition. The security module plugged in there and then wires ran everywhere to locations for sensing things like opened doors. To remove it, I just unplugged the module at the ignition and the wiring harness, and plugged the wiring harness directly into the ignition (then snip all the other wires to get the module out). I bet Toyota would do something similar so it's easy for the dealer to install and not screw up.

If it's aftermarket, it will probably be a total hack job.

If you do remove it, you may need new key fobs that are for cars that do not have the security system. For the Mazda, the security module came with its own fobs as they had an extra button for the system and only talked to the security module. You were supposed to throw away the factory ones. I just bought some factory fob replacements and programmed them to the car's ECU after I removed the module.

Now, if I were you, I would seriously try to figure out what security system it is that you are dealing with. I was able to download the dealer installation manual which showed how everything plugged in. It also described programming and troubleshooting. Might be way more helpful.

Alright, I solved it by just pulling it out, unplugging it seemed to do the trick!
Now she turns over and runs per usual!
