Not sure if its allowed to post links or mention websites, but the popular overseas site that offers parts for our 4Runners sells an aftermarket carbon fiber top steering wheel. I really would like to get it to get rid of the fake leather feel at the top and bottom of our steering wheels. Was hoping to hear anyones personal experiences with it if they have it. Hopefully its a straight forward, no mod needed, install. Thanks!

    Link?

I'm not too sure I would like the hard feeling of it on my steering wheel.

    Sure!
    https://cartrimhome.com/Steering-Wheel-Replacement-4Runner-2014

I love the feeling of that type of wheel on previous cars. I'd keep the stock one but I just am not a big fan of the fake leather on the top part.

Carbon fiber feels and looks great
They offer military green now because I asked for it, thing is, it's more of a neon green...oh well nothing a little dirt can't fix lol
Carbon fiber is firm and slick, not too slick as to be dangerous still has excellent grip.
Note: take yours stock steering wheel to an upholstery shop or a custom car shop. They might could do the wheel for less

    Yes it's from cartrim
Saw vivid too but figured its cheaper to get it from manufacturer vs US dealer
    Same wheel

Thank you so much! Super excited now. I didn't want to get my hopes up, out of fear that it would require modding to fit right. I thought they were the same wheel, but I actually asked "Vivid" and got a response that it was not. Thanks for the help. Also glad you said the green stitch is more neon than army. I was thinking about doing the green stripe on center but now will probably forego it. Thanks again.

My advice ... try custom shop first
    Trust, same wheel

Ahh shit I don't drive my 4R enough to pay $450. I was thinking the whole steering wheel was CF.

I was thinking the same but not sure where to get it done. Plus, being without a steering wheel stinks. Appreciate the confirmation. Glad I didn't go with the other vendor. Thanks again for all the help. I couldn't find much searching.

Some pulling and tapping only...does take a little force but yiu could always rent a steering wheel puller local parts store

Its not bad at all. Just being careful with the center spring is the only real concern. Rest is unscrewing this, pop off plastic cover there.

    @wolfman
The wheel also has finger gloves on the back to help with grip...will post pic tomorrow
As I mentioned local upholstery shop or custom audio shop...you'd be surprised if you set an appointment up most places have a same day turnaround
Look into it...I mean you do you man, but if it helps you safe money why not right? What's the worst tha can happen..they say "we can't do it"
Just trying to help you out man
That said if you've got the cash he'll why not right...thats what I did
Now I'm wondering...I should take my original wheel to my local audio shop
Maybe I'll raffle it after it's done (no need in having two)

Got it. Appreciate the advice. I will reach out to an upholstery shop and see if they could accommodate. Quick turnaround on a custom would be amazing. Appreciate the additional pic too. Thank you.

Did you have to do any "calibration" after the wheel install? I called a dealership asking about anything I might need to do post disconnecting the battery (some manufacturers you have to enter a radio code). I was told I MAY need to do a zero point calibration at the dealership. 1 hour labor. I assume thats not true?

    LMAO...find a new dealer...%@^#: snakes
Disconnect the battery and go all out
Lock the wheel in place and remove it then make sure the new one is facing same direction...unless o'course you want it upside-down or sideways, you do you, I like mine straight lol

:bananadance: lol! Thanks for the confirmation. You're also making the upside down option real enticing lol. Happy to hear don't need a radio code or anything else like that zero calibration. Thanks for saving me on this one.
