    ***2021 4runner***

I'm assuming this is due to something related to ABS or KDSS. But got some good weather here in the NW had about 4+ inches of snow and more in most other areas, tried to go out sliding in the new 4runner. Well, she don't like to get that back end loose very well. Seems like the front end is biting down and not letting it slide out back. Tried removing KDSS fuse and ABS fuse separately to see if we got a difference. Taking the ABS fuse(s) out seemed to help a bit but, doesn't swing out the back end right. My truck is far superior to sliding better. This is in normal 2 wheel mode with Trac control off. Any suggestions? Still feeling something fighting me?

I am confused were you trying to donuts in the snow or something? You mention sliding?

Yes and no. More or less slide "controlably" similar to drifting but in snow

You can only slide in 4lo I believe without having any sort of traction correction system kicking in. I’m not sure if any other way to turn of VSC which is stopping the vehicle from drifting.

That sucks! But it would definitely have to be in 2wd for this to work. Has to be a rwd propulsion.

Yes and no, really I can't explain it other than drifting in the snow.

I wished the answer was that simple. But even with shorter wheelbase you should be able to kick the rear out easy, granted it would grip a bit more with shorter wheelbase. This is caused because they add so much electronic assist in to prevent the slide.

Traction control turns itself back on very quickly - you will have to repeatedly shut it off to really mess around. We're PNW as well and have been driving around without issue. The Cooper AT3 4S' have been performing so well it's almost hard to get too crazy.

That being said, it's easy to fishtail corners and whatnot when desired.

Wouldn't it be more fun in 4WD? Axis spin 4Runner? Has it been done lol?

Basically try to make this off road vehicle close to RWD vehicle. Then power to rear axle will make car slide... also minimum traction in the front... TRAC OFF, then reverse steering and power.....

Thank you! I am very aware of how to slide. But the vsc is the problem I'm pretty sure. Didn't know how to turn it off before. Thanks again.

I have to admit this thread is putting a big smile on my face. I can picture a 4runner drifting with all 4 wheels throwing snow or mud

Holding the traction button is the answer! It is amazingly fun in the 4Runner with the size.
Are you off work & have you played around yet?

Yes it worked great! Much much more like what I'm used to. She swings out nicely now and seems to hold in it really well when you gas it through the slide. Thanks a bunch everyone!

    Congratulations & enjoy,
It is honestly balanced fairly well. I have a ton of snow driving experience (plowing snow for 20+ yrs). But the 4Runner is controllable in sliding. It isn't going to all of a sudden go into understeer. It is predictably fun...
Also, the rear window rolls down! I love the 4Runner.
    Ryan.

Maybe we should have a sticky thread on how to turn off the traction control since so many folks can't seem to figure it out.

It's in the manual. It's not hard. Yet, there are still some who don't realize they can actually defeat it.

4WD drifts are superior to 2WD drifts IMHO :)

I've been a driving cowboy since the age of 15....and still am at 60. I purposely deactivate traction and stability every winter in 2x4 and drive like a dick to get used to losing my ass end unexpectantly.

I've owned 4x4's since the age of 22. Still can't predict the slide whilst in 4x4.......
