    Hi all...
I recently purchased a 2002 4runner. It has a little over 200,000 miles on it. When I first got it every once in awhile it wouldn't down shift at a stop sign or red light. If I manually shifted from low up through tour drive it would be ok. Sometimes it would slam into great and felt like I was getting rear ended. This came and went now it won't move at all. The last time I drove it there was fluid every where and smoke was rolling out from around the bell housing. When I chervil the tranny fluid it is right to the top of the dip stick... oil antifreeze are all perfect...

"Getting rear ended" sounds...reminds me of a drive shaft issue IIRC.

In all honesty transmission problems can be a million things. I had shifting problems with mine, she has trouble shifting up into 3rd gear occasionally. After being inspected by a shop it turns out my solenoids are bad, mechanically. If there's an electrical issue in your shifting system your check engine light should come on.

But smoke and fluid? Sounds like it might be blown...

After speaking with a few people I decided to purchase anot her transmission and replace the old one. I finally found with 140000 miles on it.
