Is there something wrong with my rear axle? I had a friend on Facebook mention it to me. I wanted to see what you guys thought.

Hey guys!! I've been thinking about the next big epic project for my 4Runner as I'm wanting to do something kinda crazy haha. I have three options and I want to know your opinion on them when it comes to cost, efficiency, versatility. My 4runner is 2wd and my daily driver atm so keep that in mind.

    1. Swapping out rear axle with a Tacoma with locker and 4.10 gearing to have 35's. Upgrade coil-overs and rear shocks to mid range
    2. Long travel UCA & LCA upgrade shocks and coils to Kings
    3. Do a straight SAS and 4x4 conversion and will have to buy another vehicle as downtime is alot

I only do mild trails so I'm on the fence of doing 2 & 3. but thank you :)

All I get is this little box?!
Definitely 1 if only doing mild trails. Most cost effective and least downtime. You will be able to accomplish a lot with a rear locker.

Is this at citrus? Kind of a stupid question. It’s just cool to see on a new forum with new people. I Just moved over from Tacoma world

Yea its at Citrus. Ive been staying away from there for the last few years, too many vehicles for such a small place. Whats funny is I didnt make it up that because I wont push that rear axle w 35s until I upgrade it to a Nitro set of 4:56s.

Lockers make it easy peasy. Done it in 2wd locked plenty of times. How are you doing for clearance with the 35s? My previous truck. Have some from citrus somewhere when I first got it and started modding it somewhere. I live in Tennessee now8D3DEB53-C6AD-48F0-816D-E9ED27298C1F.jpg

Oh yea my 5th gen is locked, on 33s its walked up way tougher in AZ, Wind Rock in TN, and at Rousch Creek in PA. I want 4:56s on the 4th gen, so I'm doing it all at the same time when I can afford it. 35s are no problem with CMC and 1" BL. It hits full lock because of the Dual Kings up front. But I built it for speed anyway so a little rubbing is common hitting whoops at 40 to 50 mph. Ive gotten used to how much the turning radius is lacking.

I'm looking into building a "RTT" I found this set up that I want to mimic. The tent is 7 feet 6 inches long and my roof rack is 6 feet 9 inches long. Any suggestions on a platform? Thank you 1f642_4a70d8e8fbdd74b3dd17997a66b521fddef06acf.png

    Just getting started!
I actually made a video of my lift job on my 2006 (which I just traded for a 2015). Really LOVED my 2006. I made 3 vids in the series, and it started with the lift kit install, plus the 285 Nittos going on! Fun days. https://youtu.be/RXC5tOCqVe4

Figure I kinda get to add to this thread now. Little lift but it’s as high as it’s going for a few months. I’m happy with the outcome of my budget lift. Couldn’t stand the way it looked like a minivan or a soccer mom was driving it lol

Thanks. I was going to go with silver or gunmetal this time around but I’m glad I didn’t. After the window tint the Black made this paint color so much more desirable to me. I wasn’t sure about it till I put the wheels on yesterday and boom. There’s the Pacific Blue. :)

Blue never seems to be a popular color. If done with the right accents it looks amazing. My 5th gen Shoreline Blue Pearl is one that never caught on. Never see them....

I painted my TRD Off Road wheels gunmetal. I just wasn't digging the machines look. I really like how they came out.

Hi, I posted a couple weeks ago about a 2007 V6 4runner sport I got for traveling the sand roads where I live. It already has 177,000 miles on it, and I have stock bumpers and no winch, which is the configuration I'm going to keep. I don't go looking for trouble in deep holes etc. The tires have a lot of tread on them; Nitto Terragrapplers 265/70R17. I plan to remove the X-Reas suspension and lift it a tad. I did my best to look around, and I came up with this Bilstein combo. Do you see any holes in this plan? When they say "Without X-Reas suspension, are they just saying in order to use these, you must take the X-Reas out, or are they saying you can't use them at all?

This looks like I'll be getting a 2.3" lift with the back coil configuration. True? Also, how do they attain that, just due to the spring strength and length? There is no spacers or anything on the rear coils they'll send. It's take it at 2.3" an no adjustment? Not that I mind, just asking.

@jimicocobop yes you will have to remove xreas, which will be a good thing. The Bilsteins should bolt right up after the xreas shocks are removed. There are hydraulic lines that connect the front to rear shocks that will need to be either removed or cut back out of the way.
I do not have any personal experience with the Bilsteins though. There typically is no adjustment for rear lift other than changing out springs or adding spacers. There may be an air bag lift that gives some adjustment, but there again, I have no personal experience.
