Hello, new member. Longtime yota driver. mostly 1st gen 4runners and 22RE trucks. I have a 2006 4runner 4X4 that I took in for a front-end alignment. I do most of my maintenance so I haven't been to a toyota dealership in years. Well while waiting, they said they had a coupla recalls that they could do for no charge, half-listening I said sure.

Well, one was an "elsbos" software update that had something to do with cutting power when brakes are applied. Since that update, my bullet-proof, never fail 4runner with 150k+ on it has been a disaster.
    1. roached battery
    2. roached alternator
    3. rear wiper comes on whenever it wants to, then doesn't work at all
    4. rear wiper fluid now inop
    5. amber blinkers and parking lights have all blown
    6. r/f driving light blown
    7. l/f blinker works when it wants to
    8. #6 cylinder misfire, pulled plug and negative electrode gone, positive sheered in half, and a few more

I replaced the #6 cylinder plug and coil pack, it is running fine but I am going to park it until I get a used ECM. As such, I'm in for an alternator, multiple bulbs, belt, battery, etc. Multimeter was running 13.6 now 13.4 on the batt.

My question is, after throwing the dice and getting a used ecm from a junkyard and hoping it doesn't have this update, IS IT PLUG and PLAY?? Or will I have to go to a stealership and have it flashed? I just don't want to deal with anymore software updates and the nonsense they have caused me.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
