Hey guys just joined from North Georgia. I just purchased a 99' that had been sitting out on a guys property for a few weeks. Not the most critical thing as I get started with the build, but I'm having trouble getting the sunroof to open. I changed out the dome fuse and you can hear the roof engage a little but it won't tilt or open. Anyone ever have issues with this?

If you think it's stuck, can you push it up while holding button?

Thanks! I tried a couple of times. Unfortunately after some reading, I'm thinking i may have to take the headliner down and replace the tracks or the sunroof motor. I was thinking it was more of a unique situation. Sounds like this is a common issue.:(

I've seen cases where tree sap, etc has gummed up the opening, tracks, etc...kinda like when you see leaves inside fenders, etc..as you don't expect to see 'em there...do a massive cleaning of that area

the prior owner of my '00 Limited used silicon around the rim to seal the sunroof/moonroof closed 6+ years ago because of a leak. I want to get it working again, I am aware of the trays and drain holes, but worry I'm opening a massive can of worms, with headliner removal being necessary to get to any problem, corroded/trashed motor, and such. Its not leaking, and the wife, my beloved holder of the purse strings, says leave it alone. Other than obeying to maintain marital bliss, any ideas?

RoxToy00, I would listen to the wife.

I got away with doing stuff like this because my track record on fixing issues with old/used cars was good. But I always got the stink eye halfway through the job when half the engine on her car was apart for a TB change.

    But I'm divorced now...so there's that.

Got to keep the Runner...so there's that.

I've got the same issue. Removing headliner and cleaning tracks/cable is on the list...
My motor was completely seized with rust as well

Damn Trey, feel for you. And Negusm, been there, done that (on my third wife, previously too many engine parts in sink/bathtub/dishwasher, I guess, lol). Anyway, other priorities, and rainy season coming, so will leave well enough alone ... for now. But really want it working, just don't see it as a weekend project.
