Makita 18v compressor/inflator

Anyone ever use one of these on 4runner class tires. I'm in the process of obtaining some makita 18v tools and was wondering if I should pursue one of these in a combo package......rated up to 120 psi. Tia.

 

I run a Viair that hooks to the battery terminals. Have for 10+ years.

Looking at that Makita, I'd be surprised if it can inflate four 4Runner tires on a charge. It's only a little $49 compressor.

Maybe I'm wrong and this thing is great, but color me skeptical.

 

I have a similar Ryobi 18v inflator and it works fine for the occasional top up of all 4 tires on my 4Runner.

No way it would work for airing up after airing down for off-roading. Way to weak for that.

I have a Ryobi 18v inflator and i was able to air up a single from 20 to 32psi but it used ~25% of my Lithium+ 3Ah battery so i would go offroad with 2 batteries to ensure i had enough power. I have 2 so to save money i am just using this for now...eventually I will by a viair but i already have this and it works.

I wouldnt buy the Matika inflator just for this...only if you already have it. Also,test on your driveway airing down4 tires and see how long it takes withyour inflator and batteries

I would just be using to top off tires when temperatures create low pressure conditions, or if I pick up a nail or screw and need to keep air up till repaired. Normally I'm running 35-38 psi.

Don’t. Ran on on my Tacoma couldn’t even air up one 35 from 18-35 without shutting down. Pay attention to the duty cycle. It sucks.

 

Just do the Shittybilt 5.65 cfm compressor. It’s a generic unit that get rebadged and sold under a few different names. 5.65 cfm is very high, it moves a lot of air quickly but the downside is a low duty cycle. It’ll air up 4 tires quicker than ARB dual compressors, but then it’s going to need a break to cool down. All in all it’s worth it for the price, the value is hard to beat.

 

Nobody ever regretted buying a Viair 300P. It's like the 4Runner of compressors. Old. Basic. Works. Mine is over a decade old and has performed flawlessly in lots of conditions. I did have to replace the hose recently because it cracked, but that's after 10+ years of use. The compressor itself just requires occasional cleaning and new filters.

OP, that compressor should be just fine for what you want. Don't worry one bit.

Now, if you're trying to go off-road often, and purposely let half the air our of your tires, then re-fill.. yeah, it's not built for that. Then the task becomes even more difficult if you switch to LT tires which require even more air to properly (re)inflate.

FWIW, the Dewalt 20v got the best reviews as far as the battery powered inflators go. I heavily considered it because I already have the batteries, but eventually went with an ARB portable. I only splurged on the ARB though because I have 275 LT tires. If I was still on the P265's, I think the Dewalt would have been just fine for the occasional off-road trip with a mild air-down. I say this especially when considering that P rated tires shouldn't be, and don't need to be, aired down as much as LT tires. So sure, I bet a decent battery powered air compressor would be just fine for even airing up (~5psi per tire) P rated tires after a trail a couple times a year. It'll take a while, but it'll get the job done. The sheer amount if time it will take to get the job done, though, would leave you wanting an upgrade if you did it very often.

 

I have the 18V LXT Makita inflator shown at the top of this thread. It's so great for occasional top-offs. Took it off-roading once and it was barely able to eeeek out reinflating 4x stock-size tires from 15psi to 31psi. Took a long time, too. Worth it for around-the-house stuff. Can't recommend for aired-down use.
