First post here, hopefully i can get some clarification.

Today I flushed my radiator in my 2000 Tr4. It hadn’t been done in a while and not since I’ve owned the car. It had green in it and I put in new Zerex Asian Red 50/50. I flushed it probably 4 times with distilled water and in the end in was coming out clear. Throughout this process i forgot to actually turn the heater on full blast. The temp gauges were on hot but i forgot to turn the air actually on. My car does have a rear heater. In the end i put in about 2 gallons of coolant in the rad and reservoir and I believe this model takes 2.5 gallons.

Is this a big f up? I would really not want to redo this process but if there is an extra half gallon of old coolant in the system because I forgot to run the fans then i guess I don’t have a choice. Thanks

Ur good. Coolant still runs through the heater core without the fans on....

Thanks SR5 for the quick reply,

I’m just really worried there could be some residual green and it will mix and cause bad things. I love this car and would hate to have something happen because I fumbled the rad flush.

A little bit won't cause bad things. A lot bit mixing won't cause bad things either but won't last as long.

I ran mine coolant for ten years, maybe longer. Swapped it out once. Then had the water pump and upper coolant hose done. So it was changed then.

Will I know when to replace those things? Or is it considered like. 100k mile repair or something?

So I’m going down the rabbit hole of this site and just saw the info about the pink milkshake. Since I’m at 240k and 20 years on the stock rad I figured I should replace fairly soon. Since I just changed my coolant could I drain the new coolant into the jugs I used and then just put that into the new rad? Or is it necessary to have brand new fluid with a new radiator?

Yeah, that stuff is fine to reuse.

My original TOYOTA rad didn't make it past 125k before leaking. So I got an advanced Auto replacement and at 250k it leaked too...BUT it had a lifetime warranty....so I got a free replacement when I did the t-belt at 250k. This is one of those parts that for me, the TOYOTA one is about as good as the aftermarket ones.

I do recommend all TOYOTA radiator hoses though. They are the proper fit and molded properly. I used NAPA Gates hoses (very good quality) but they just don't fit as nicely. From an on-line Toyota dealer, the actual Toyota hoses weren't that much more. I go on partsouq.com, plug in my vin and get the part numbers for things I need.

You can also completely avoid the pink milkshake by putting in an external radiator cooler. It's on my list of things to do next time as it is cheap insurance. Lots of articles and youtube vids on that.

I was down that same rabbit hole this week have a rad ordered and have installed the external trans cooler. Will flush both of what ever is left in the system. Had the trans cooler blow as I pulled into my driveway. 273,600 miles original radiator and was running green.
