Hey guys and gals. I recently acquired a near mint 97 4 runner ,the frame is cleaner then my new ram. Head gaskets are completely gone. The thing is way to nice to scrap. I have a 2000 4runner that runs and drives perfectly. Bad frame though. By looks of the engine bay everything looks identical. Right down to the vacuum lines. Was just wondering if anyone here had experience swapping years over. Again it will be a 2000 engine going into a 97. Thanks!!!

If its the v6, I'm fairly certain everything should be identical. Same engine, mating to the same transmission. AFAIK absolutely nothing changed between years of the 5VZ-FE.
Only maybe the throttle body or some nuances of the intake tube.

Hey thanks everyone , yes I left out the most important thing it’s the 3.4 v6 . I put them side by side and it looks like the maf sensor is in a different spot but same connector. I don’t see much else . My friend is doing the swap for me I’m sure I’ll find out lol . Thanks for the replies !

Thanks !! The one I’m putting the engine in has 445,400 miles . Engine lasted that long . Body and frame are spotless . Newer trans I’ll post detailed pics when she’s done

    Hello there!
I am a 3rd Gen hoarder (you find out later) and as far as the 97, the AIR management is different. They have different MAF sensors thus I THINK the ecu could be different?? Dont quote me but they are hugely different. If they are both v6 you are good. If the heads are good, just replace the heads and block. just my 12 cents :)
