    Hi everyone!

I’m currently shopping for a magnetic gray TRD Off Road Premium with KDSS in SoCal. I called a couple dealerships and only one has the exact one I want. I got quoted 48k out the door. Is that reasonable?

This is my first time buying a new car so any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Not in my book! We have a 2020 ORP and with the aftermarket tires(installed at dealership) and lift/leveling kit(also installed at dealer), our total was around 41.5k, I think dealers know they have a "hot" commodity, and are trying to gouge customers as much as they can. Of course they don't go down in price, but that seems a bit extreme from one year to the next. P.S.- Some dealers don't gouge, they are far and few! Another thing, I don't live by Longbeach, or any port that they might come into either!

Check out freeman Toyota in Santa Rosa. They have the best prices on Toyota’s in California. It would be worth the drive for the money you’d save.

    Hi,

I got my Runner last year at Simi Valley Toyota for $39,750 before taxes and registration. I have a 2020 SR5 4WD. My Runner came with Nitto Ridge Grapplers 285/70/17, 17’ Fuel Rims, and Bilstein 5100’s in the Front and Rear. My wife and I could not believe the deal we got and their customer service was top notch. Just checked their website and they have a 2021 TRD ORP Silver for $43,939!

If OTD includes taxes then it probably is decent. It really all depends on if you are willing to shop around or not.

Thank you everyone for all the replies. I really appreciate it. Yes out the door with everything for 48k. Can’t believe 1,000 for alarm activation

without knowing your Est. Tax, Title & Fees. If my math is not wrong, they prolly discount you ~1500 from the original price. I think you can do better thank 48k depends on where you at.

My 2021 MSRP is 46,300 I paid 43k OTD with 1000$ rebate included.

What are "FEES"? If you pay over $200.oo on paper fees for accounting or transfer of title/financing.. your getting blasted! Toyota is giving $500.oo customer cash right now. You are very correct in assuming that he can do better than 48K. The dealership I went to had this "other fees" shit on the invoice, so I told them figure out what the final damages would be, then went through with a pen and crossed out the $500 fee bull, and that's the way that went. More times than not, a dealership CAN'T tell you what "fees" or "other fees" are for, and if they can't even come up with a crafty lie.... why pay it?

Looking at the breakdown....567 bucks to “amount paid to public officials” which includes a transfer fee $268

The cash price for the vehicle is listed on the paperwork for 44k.... all the fees and sales tax (California) brought it to 48k

Watch some videos from 'The Chevy Guy', very informative. He is a salesperson at a Chevy dealership and he explains in a vid about 'the 9 hidden fees you should never pay', if nothing else it's good entertainment. The things he explains about buying a car are true and they work. I got rid of at least $500 on the worksheet by watching these vids. I don't want your 1st buying experience to be crappy, just find the best deal you can, don't get in a big hurry, that's just what a salesperson wants..... for you to feel like if you don't buy this one you'll never find another like it. Good luck on your quest, car buying should be fun! $1000 for alarm activation? NO

dealers have 4000-5000 profit in MSRP (different models and states)
get 2k-3k off is good enough (fresh from factory <1month shipping <10km, dealer has some overhead costs that can't be zero).
4k off is incredible (usually late Sep/Oct before the new year model come in)
over 5k it could be a demo or somewhat.

forget additional fees, just distract 3k off from website after-tax amount and say this is the final all-incl I pay. it will be a reasonably good deal.

some brands can discount up to 15k/20% but not Toyota/4r.

Wisconsin and California prices, night and day difference. Especially in SoCal? Probably the most expensive 4Runner market in the entire nation, maybe the world. NorCal is up there too.

That's a shame too. People from California live by how many ports that Toyota can ship into? Wisconsin is not by any readily accessible port that Toyota would ship to, unless you count the St. Lawrence Seaway. Then there is trucking involved for us here. Makes no sense. I like California (spent lots of time there, allover the state) but logistical nightmares should not be at the expense of it's residents. The good news is someone is buying a 4Runner, and hopefully has a blast with it!

I bought a 2021 TRD OFP with KDSS, sunroof and X package. I was 43k MSRP, but with added options as mentioned (and a rear slide cargo deck) and paint protection/body guard at $48,100. Granted that might seem higher than others have seen.....but there was nothing around with the added XP and KDSS. Not to mention, I was able to trade my Jeep in for a nice price so I’m happy with my price and more importantly that I was able to get one with the options I had wanted. At days end, only each of us can be comfortable with our own decisions. The best one is of course that you are getting the best truck on planet! Good luck with your search.

Good luck! I’ve seen some dealers here in SoCal putting a 5k-7k markup on Ventures! This craziness is typically reserved for the TRD Pro, but the Venture has become somewhat hard to find. That 1k for the alarm is pure markup, don’t pay it!

Thank you for all the responses everyone!! So helpful.

Sounds like you got something similar to what I’m looking at. What is X package? And did you get the extended warranty?

Sorry it’s called the XP package, offered in mostly the Southeast (I think?)....package comes with upgraded Pro wheels, Pro Grille, blacked out exhaust, blacked out overlay emblems and Nitto RG’s. I did get an 10 year 100k mile extended warranty. Good luck with your search. I have 2700 miles on mine in 2 months! Even though the new car smell has mostly worn off, I still smile each time I get in it!

id say try and keep looking op. you may not be entirely being price gouged but definitely smells like a bit of a markup. id suggest you see whats around, and like other posters have suggested, if youre willing to make a drive it might be very much worth it.

Basically what we all are dealing with is the fact that we want the last true SUV on the market within a reasonable price rance. Sure theres the defender or the landcruiser at 80-90k but we arent here for that. The bronco just came out so will be marked up crazy for a couple more years. Jeeps, well we all want to offroad and still be able to drive the kids to school or not have to visit the dealer 2-3 times a year for BS. So the toyota 4 runner is a niche vehicle no one expected it to be 10 years ago. thus. markups but yet value. my point is...we all have kick ass rigs we probably overpaid for in one way or another.
