    Hey guys,
So I had my first experience with Pre collision system today. Car in front of me all of a sudden decided to turn into a plaza and hit the brakes like crazy right in front of me! Of course I was trying to find that song on my phone at the moment. My 4runner started making loud noise and whole screen turned red. When I applied brakes I felt like they were ready for this and had all the braking power pre-applied so I stopped very fast.

Has this system ever saved anyone? Would the car stop if I didn’t apply brakes? Please share your experiences with this system.

    From Toyota’s website

“If the system determines that a frontal collision is likely, it prompts you to take action using audio and visual alerts. If you notice the potential collision and apply the brakes, PCS w/PD may apply additional force using Brake Assist (BA). 87 If you don't brake in time, it may automatically apply the brakes to reduce your speed, helping to minimize the likelihood of a frontal collision or reduce its severity”

And it saved you from an accident, didn’t it?

yea, I read this. That’s exactly what I’m interested in, in “may automatically apply brakes”. If that auto braking actually happened to anyone.

I wouldn’t say it saved me from accident, but I can see how it could have helped was I more distracted and looking in front of me.

I had someone slam on their brakes in front of me. I also slammed on my brakes, so idk if the car braked by itself, but everything lit up and let me know about the pending danger.

I’ve also had it alert me on the freeway when traffic was stopping and I didn’t notice. I was not mad about it and like the feature more than I thought I would.

Apparently your brain didn't save you from an accident.
Why would you be looking for a song on your phone while driving.....also illegal in a lot of states to be handling a phone.

It saved me big time. I was looking out the window and didn’t notice traffic had stopped while I was doing 45. I really thank the radar and the pre collision, saved me, and the person in front of me. I hope everything soon has these systems, because phones are such a distraction, as well as scenery.

I don't touch my phone while I drive, and scenic views are best left to hiking. The public roads are there for one reason, to allow us to move around more quickly. If you aren't mother effing ON IT, get out of my left lane!!! Ok.. rant over lmao.

So far mine (set to "Medium") has yelled at me about 10 times but I didn't need it once. A computer can only tell what's really going on so much.. which is also why I hate automatic transmissions but I digress. They were all "fair" and I'm sure would have really helped a distracted driver.

Fortunately mine has yet to actually engage the brakes when I don't want it to, hence why it's still on Medium as opposed to turned off completely. I leave it on because no one is perfect.. maybe it will help one day. As long as it doesn't try to slow me down when I'm just using my momentum appropriately and don't feel like slowing down for the car that's already turning and getting out of my way, I'm OK leaving the audible alarm on so it can tell me when I'm driving "too dangerously" lol. Funny, the alarm usually "goes off" around the same time my fiance does! :D
