I was mid way through doing the "tail as a turn" mod on my 2021 and discovered the Diode Dynamics 7443 "XP80" bulb will not click into the factory socket. It just slides right out. Am I missing something here? So many people have had success with these lights, but mine are basically unusable.

It was a really quick look, but are the wires on the bottom of the bulb tight against the bottom of the bulb? The look they're sticking straight out.

Edit: nevermind, that just was some lint or something.

Diode dynamics doesn't list 2021 bulbs for the 4runner, wonder if they changed the rear plug on the 2021

This must be the case... looking again at diode dynamics website, they only list through 2020 models, so I guess I cant be mad at them about this lol! just frustrating though as I was looking forward to the upgrade in reverse lighting with this mod!

Are both bulbs doing the same thing?

good question, post a pic of OEM and DD side by side in close-up, lets see the difference.
I bet it is something off with the socket, the bulbs are all the same.
It's not like the 2021 suddenly takes a special bulb. Maybe a different kind, but not a specially made one.
I doubt they changed the bulb but nothing on the rest of the vehicle.

I already put everything back together, but the stock incandescent and the diode dynamic bulb looked to be the same, the stock bulbs are labeled "7440A"

both sides (with both bulbs) did the same thing seen in my video; the bulbs would NOT click into the socket, they literally had zero retention and just slid out. The stock bulbs have a positive click when inserted meaning the problem is the diode dynamic bulb itself. I am exchanging them, maybe these were defects from the factory... but the likelihood of BOTH bulbs being defective and doing the same thing in both tail light housings is questionable.

I circled the only difference I can imagine, the two little taps on the sides. the diode dynamics bulbs do not have these tabs...

Send them an email, i am curious what they have to say.
Out of the all out there LED manufacturers, they seem to be in the big boys league

The DD bulbs look like they have 4 wires (2 on each side). I installed the lasfits on mine and they are only two wire like the stock bulb.

I'm just spitballing thinking of things.

The only update is that Diode dynamics is accepting the returns and will give me a refund. No explanation, solution, or any other info. Very unfortunate... I WANTED these to work!

I have these Lasfit switchbacks in my front turns and they are AWESOME! Fit perfectly in the harness and perform flawlessly. Wish they made an all white 7440 bulb!

Bummed Lasfit doesn’t make a 1156 switchback for my 2012 DRLs. I bought their amber 1156 to rid the DRLs of that egg yolk look when they are off, but the color was terrible, much worse than the incandescent amber bulb.
