As far as driving, you’ll be fine in either. But personally I wouldn’t want to be going 65 on the hwy in 4wd. Not because that speed would cause damage, but because doing anything other than going in a straight line at that speed will cause damage. I certainly wouldn’t switch back and forth above 30mph, regardless of what the manual says.

There are much cooler looking 4runners out there than my Limited, but I like all the extra options (2012) and at the end of the day my off road needs amount to driving on the beach a couple times a year and nothing else.

I will say that the Limited is the first AWD I’ve ever owned and it was really cool the first time I felt the front wheels pull me back on the road, after coming out of a ditch with wet grass. I was fully expecting to ruin my brothers front yard by not switching to 4wd but all of the sudden I was back on asphalt.

And what he said. Snow tires + Limited's full-time 4WD can't be beat for the situation you describe. Plus, the Limited comes with a lot of goodies you can't get on any other model.

thanks for all the help everyone, seems like Limited gets the vote but as someone said, either probably works fine. I agree, the Pro looks cooler and to be honest that would be the only reason I would buy it, lol. The smarter deal seems to be a loaded Limited and keeping the extra 7k in my pocket. Planning on getting one in the next week or so, maybe I can squeeze an extra grand from a dealer to make his yearly quota.

Let me add few points that much help your search before ordering.

TRD Pro is pretty much same as TRD Offroad Premium. But Pro has the black badging + fox shocks + trd front skid plate. Also available with special colors. Offroad tech like locking diff, crawl control, terrain management is exact same as TRD Offroad premium.

There is something TRD Pro does not have but only available in TRD Offroad Premium. That is call KDSS. (you can find out more rather than me saying here.)

If you are looking for a Limited and like to have diff locks after market not only you can have rear diff locker like TRD Pro and TRD Offroad you can get both front and rear diff lockers from after market 4x4 shops. When I want to add a front locker to my TRD offroad premium (in addition to stock rear locker) I got 2 options from the shop. First option is an E-locker which would cost me around $1500 parts and labor. Second option is Air Locker which would cost be around $2500 - $3000 parts and labor. But I should say that the A-Trac system that comes on all 4Runner models is amazingly capable. I think people under estimate A-Trac alot.

You can also use other model bumpers and side trim pieces if you want and also can swap 20 inch wheels to 17 inch wheels which I will be doing soon. I got 17in TRD Offroad wheels. (I got TRD Offroad wheels because they are wider than TRD Pro wheels)

So take your time to find out more and make a good decision that meets your needs. :)

Congrats! As others have said, both the Pro and Limited are great. But IMO you really made the right call going Limited. it has things you can't get -- or even later add -- on the Pro. And as has been pointed out you can still turn the Limited into an off road beast if you want to. Even bone stock it's way more capable than most other SUVs.

Please post pics when you get it! And then more pics if you do any mods!

Congrats. The pro looks awesome. I was going back and forth on the limited and pro before I got my limited. I really wanted the full time 4WD and the lexus style leather. Then I saw miguelons limited and basically it looked better than the pro. I was also planning to get Icons, gobi, shrockworks blah blah. Then my other half made me realize that it pretty much takes off the pro stuff, lol

Anyone have a pic of a limited with the TRD OR wheels? Always wondered what the limited would look like with the 17” wheels.

Found this pic on google images (not mine). I'm still doing my search on tires. When I decide on that I should be able to complete my project Limited with TRD OR wheels. (I already got TRD OR wheels)

I think those OR rims are gonna look nice on the silver limited. The OR rims kinda balance with the chrome on the truck.

My wife has a limited and I the Pro and either will fit your needs just fine. I will say I believe tires make as much a difference in snow as anything. The only gripe I have with the Limited is the tires. They do the job in snow but if snow driving is your main concern I’d look into a better tire for snow. They’re not the best. Good snow tires and you can do a lot of snow driving in 2wd.

She is hiding from the snow in the garage, with a measly 8 miles on the odometer, lol.

Does the 4WD knob light up when you have your lights on? I noticed on the dial there appears to be a diode that I would think lights up when the lights are on. Same thing to the left of the steering wheel. The adjustment for the mirror and the brightness selector for the panel lights both look like they should be lighting up in blue as well. Just thought it was odd that they all appear to have a light up diode under them.

Ok thank you, I kept looking at them thinking they shouldn’t light up. That dial and mirror adjustment does light up on our Highlander. That little spot on the 4WD shifter looks like it should too but I’m glad ours match. Thanks!

I don't do much wheeling as I take my Limited more for camping/outdoor activities with the family so all the extra offroading options didn't really affect me much. On the other hand, I do like the way the Pro/OffRoad looks like I decided to make my Limited look like a pro while keeping the Limited features. Just showing you what you could do if down the road you get tired of all the chrome ;)
    Nice Limited!!!!

Thank you. It was even more work given that mines a 2013 so all the internals had to be changed out including the lights, grill, fender liners, lights rewired but Im glad it turned out pretty clean.
